I love my 8140 have had it for 10 years still looks like new not a scratch on the sapphire crystal. Only problem it's ever had was the battery went dead during the pandemic because I didn't leave the house for 6 months. Put it under a lamp for 12 hours and it was back to life time reset by radio signal and everything was normal again.

Come on Citizen, you got it right with Eco-drive, but what about that tickin second hand! You own Bulova and put a smooth seconds hand on my Precisionist, why are you using ticking seconds on these watches? Many of the watches shown in this video I would seriously consider if they had a smooth seconds hand. There is no way I would put a ticking seconds on my wrist.

You need a mechanical watch for sweeping hands. Eco drive is a quartz watch. If you want accuracy and a true sweeping hand you need a grand seiko spring drive. Absolutely the best movement.

Any Citizen Eco-Drive or Seiko Solar Drive will have a +/- second deviation per month less than a mechanical does per day, even a Grand cannot match it, and you are kidding yourself if you think it can.

@@christopher2206 no look at bulova precisionist. Its got a wonderful smooth sweep yet its got a quartz movement. Very accurate. The only thing keeping me from buying one is their size.

@@johnlucier5654 Yeah the precisionist ticks at 16 times per second so it looks like it is sweeping to the naked eye. The trade off is much higher power consumption which might be an issue for the eco drive also the precisionist looks like ass.

Citizen made the most spectacular Advertising Disaster I have ever seen in my Life. It was the 1980's and the USA was restoring the Statue of Liberty, for the Centennial of it's building. So, some Ad genius at Citizen commissions a Commercial with a blasted landscape and a fallen Statue of Liberty protruding from the wreckage. There is a black , sort of gleaming Humanoid figure digging around in the ruins, and it get's all excited about something it had found. Others close in to see what is so exciting, and it happens to be a Citizen Watch. Caption ? "Some things are worth saving". What an unmitigated disaster.

Problem with eco drive is if you dont charge it regularly the battery goes bad.

I've had mine 10 years the only issue was during the pandemic when i didn't leave the house for 6 months. 1 day in the sunshine will charge it. If you have a large collection of watches it could be an issue you'd probably need to keep it on a windowsill but that is a problem that is inherent in all rechargeable batteries..

@@Paul-vf2wl mines been on the dash of my car for 3 months now. It keeps enough charge to stay running if you leave it in the sun. If you play with it it quits im less than an hour. Alarm doesnt work. Ive had this nearly 20 years and in that time its been on my wrist about a month total and there were several stretches of 2-3 years where it sat in a drawer. Im ordering a new capacitor and while i dont need a watch this one is beautiful, small so it fits my wrist, all titanium chrono with alarm and in excellent condition with just light wear on the gold contrasting finish on the titanium band. Case and crystal are flawless. So its a keeper.

It's just a staple accessory for many people, stylistically and of course the incredible engineering that goes into these tiny, yet capable devices. Apple watch for example does 100x what these "traditional" wristwatches do, but they are stylistically quite boring, just a small black rectangle on everyones wrist. Kind of like everyone wants a different car, different spec, different wheels, different paint color, a watch serves its purpose in a similar way.

Looking at a cellphone to know the time is like a step back to wristwatches which were used before the first World War. Also, no cellphone has an atomic clock. They get their time from the cell network. And, yes, nobody needs a 1,000m dive watch, still they are being made, not only by Citizen. Nobody needs a car with more than 100hp either. Still people are driving 300hp SUVs with a weight of 2 tons. Look at the 1,000 m diver watch as the "SUV of wristwatches".
