I have watched hundreds of videos on photography and a significant portion on composition. And while I've heard most of the rules explained before, I have never found so much common sense illustration and explanation as in this video. I will watch this one many times and make notes for adding them to my own images. Thanks for such a well-done bit of education.

Oh yes, those illustrations on the issues mentioned are damn spot on. And that shot of the see and the sky with beautiful blues to the left and purples to the right made me rethink what beauty is. I’m wiping the saliva out from my floor but it’s still dripping.

Indeed!! I actually stopped the video to grab my small composition book (no pun intended) from my camera backpack, re-started the video, watched it in its entirety, then watched it again and took notes.

I know you have plenty of followers and a saturated field of thanks, but I just wanted to express my own gratitude. There are literally thousands of videos and sites out there for advice, tips and techniques, but I very often find your methods and delivery the most understandable. I have just bought my first DSLR last week and have been studying your videos since, and I have to say, I have become even more drawn in and curious about photography. I know we all have something to learn, no matter how long we’ve been studying something. But your prospective towards the beginner, whilst applying subliminal higher techniques and methods for amateurs is fantastic. Thank you Chris.

Great vid. Just the right length and informative., and inspiring. You could teach people how to make KZbin vids, let alone about photography. I already learnt from another photographer about shooting vertically. Every shot I take, I take horizontally and vertically. It’s like muscle memory now. In fact I’d forget to tell anyone else to do this, as I do it automatically and hardly realise I’m doing it. I’m glad you mentioned this great tip. When it comes to post processing, I’ve used tons of vertical shots. And to think I would never have gotten those shots had I just shot horizontally. Going to check out your other vids. Thanks.

I suggest that even a moderately experienced amateur start at lesson one and patiently go back over stuff you may think you know. This is what I am doing and this instructor pulls it all together so concisely that it sticks in your head (take notes!). Real confidence builder.
