Strongman really has had some hilarious events in the past! Some of my honorable mentions: -the Wrist Roll (WSM 1977 & WSM 1978) - that one looked brutal -Loading race with flour bags (Europe's Strongest Man 1983) -the sleigh push on ice (WSM 1984) -the Swingletree (WSM 1985) -that weird race with the baskets from WSM 1990 -the Pole Push (WSM 1993 & 1994) And of course: -Last Man Standing

Awww. I just watched 1977 last night and I liked the wrist roll! Maybe I have weird taste.
@enricomarxstrongman3 жыл бұрын
@@MyBlocksStrongestMan I wouldn't say you have weird taste. Honestly, I like most of these old events. The reason I pointed out that specific one is because my wrists and foreams fatigue really fast and I would probably die if I had to do something like the wrist roll. Still, the original competions are incredibly fun to watch.
@user-lf3wr8rh7r3 жыл бұрын
@@MyBlocksStrongestMan The wrist roll is something that a lot of strong men still do in training, it absolutely wrecks your forearms, i think it should still be included if they done away with the heats and had maybe 12-15 events that everyone does!

People who think strongman is cardio based now need to watch strongman from the 80’s and 90’s when there was more emphasis on moving and fitness. Strongmen stems from lifting and moving with random objects, but 2020 fans complain when they see it in today’s competition!

Can we get a Top 10 Worst Events list? Not worst as in hardest but worst as in highest chance for injury, ill planned, etc. There was a carry ~5ish years ago that had stupidly small grips that ripped the skin off a number of guys hands. It was as if it was designed to injure.

Fascinated piece of Strongman history. It shows how far Strongman has come with the systematization of events. No longer are the athletes subject to the ganja induced fantasies of some 70s television producer. However, it also shows that Strongman has always been a spectacle, where the athleticism of the sport is derived from adapting to new situations and events. As Strongman evolves, it's important to push for continued legitimacy and standardization of events for the safety of the athletes while maintaining the unique Strongman "spectacle" that is so unique to the sport.

You should really look at a map, iceland is around a thousand miles from Canada, coast to coast, whereas Scotland is around 500 miles away, and if you want to take it further, the Faroe isles are almost half that distance away. Even Oslo is closer (if you know where that is)
