You're thinking of Pure Strength 1989, although that's not quite what happened. They were doing a loading medley up a hill and through the castle gates. OD and Kaz were on the same team. OD lost his balance carrying a barrel on his back and accidentally dropped it down into the courtyard below. He was told he had to go down and retrieve it. Meanwhile Kaz tries to block Magnus to try to give OD some time. Kaz manages to knock the barrel off Magnus' shoulders. It falls down into the same courtyard where OD is still trying to retrieve his barrel. Someone shouts at OD to watch out, and he manages to bring up his arm just in time to stop the barrel hitting him in the face. One of the most scarring in-competition moments in strongman. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXfPo2OYbM9mZsU

I may shift a few of these around in my head, would definitely put Girard higher up. But Poundstone is definitely the undisputed number one. Another huge tick for him is that he beat Savickas at the 2008 Fortissimus when Zydrunas was dominating the scene. Fortissimus is still the greatest single strongman event ever imo, so brutal. The fact Derek lifted that Louis Cyr natural stone is an insane achievement even now. Neither himself or Zydrunas could do it in 2009.

Jouko Ahola talked about how Riku Kiri only trained static strength. Jouko trained with Janne Virtanen and they were pedantic about event training. They tried to get Riku to join them, but he would just drop by sometimes for a chat and then get back to his deadlifts. Then he'd throw all that strength into the events in competition, and would end up getting injured.

@Colm Rich Nobody is saying that Mariusz won unfairly, or that it was Mariusz' fault that Derek made a mistake on the Atlas Stones. @greg babik state that Mariusz was stronger and that's what I think is not beyond dispute. Very true and the earlier years against Mariusz also! 2007 was a great year and coming third is an extremely high achievement! Either way there’s going to be a generation of British strongmen who will mention people like you, Loz and Hall as the people who inspired them !!

I know Kieliszkowski is only 26 but I think he's already done enough to he considered on this list 5x Poland's strongest man 2x 2nd place at WSM 1st, 3rd at WUS Dubai 6 consecutive top 4 at Arnolds 2x podium at Europe's 3x Giants Live Winner Dumbell WR Car Walk WR Frame WR Except Dereck Poundstone nobody on this list has achieved this much

Always thought Hugo was the best guy around in the early 2000's, the long shows in hot climates really taxed him. Great list, love to see Gerrit and Riku on there!

You should be on this list Loz. Seriously you were crazy powerful and very capable. You have beaten every great strongman in your era in their prime. You didn’t win, but it wasn’t because you weren’t capable, or powerful enough. In my opinion you had some tough breaks at the worst time and that’s all. You are a great strongman.

Thanks mate, I’m definitely proud of what I’ve achieved. I’ve been a world/European and British champions, won a number of international contests/ been in over 30 international podiums broken World records. It’s funny I never use to think u had done much but now I’ve retired I look back and thing actually I did ok. Also the opposition was pretty tough in my era lol 😂

Big Loz Official exactly. Your humility is a virtue and serves you well. However the reality is you’re a powerhouse to this day and, I believe you’ve been unfairly overlooked by the spectacle and draw of those giants you’ve beaten. Let me say this while I’m ranting, it aggravates me that I can see on KZbin almost every europe’s strongest man competition in its entirety except the the one you stole from Thor in 2016... what do you get to see instead? The deadlift record. Was that cool? yes, but what’s cooler to me is when Big Loz beats the giant that’s the favorite, wether that’s Thor, or Terry Holland, or Shaw, or Big Z or fill in the blank. It seems to me if it’s not the guy they are using to sell the show it’s overlooked or under appreciated. Here’s the reality, fans know winners, you my friend are a winner. You remind me of Curtis Martin of the NFL one of the best running backs in nfl history and consistently good, however because he just won, ran for yards, and scored touchdowns, but didn’t talk about how great he was he was nearly ignored. This is what I personally love about you, you love the sport and competition enough to live for the sport and competition allowing for it to be enough. I’m glad to call you a friend. You’re an inspiration, don’t get emotional you’re to big to cry. Love ya brother.

Flemming Rasmussen would have destroyed the field in my opinion if he didn't get sick with a bunch of other competitors after the heats. I forgot what year it was maybe 98. wikipedia says people got injured but I recall it was food poisoning instead I think. also Misha Koklyaev
@paulisacrazyfreak1014 жыл бұрын
In his prime koklayevs combined total of Olympic lifts and powerlifts would of been well above anyone else. I know it's a hypothetical total, but shows what an incredible strength athlete he was. Never seen big Z do a snatch for example (although of course he never needed to).

If Mark Felix had started Strongman at an earlier age he would probably have won WSM or been on this list. The only others i can think of are Ab Wolders (the Battle he and Jamie had was the reason i watch WSM every year), also Jesse Marunde another lost to early as they were reaching great heights. Then It would be yourself Loz, injuries scupper the best. Still remember seeing your Lat go in the deadlift (sorry for bringing back bad memories) but 2 years later you are European Champ, really thought that was your time for WSM win. Thank you for your videos, Love this sport so much.

I agree with your picks. A fun guy to watch and if he had a good day had the potential to win it at one time was Wout Zijlstra.

I've been a strongman fan, from Québec, ever since watching Hugo compete at WSM and IFSA super series. Those log press events between him, Svend and Z, which often ended up breaking the WR. The 'donut eating cop' interviews with Svend. And to think 150kg was giant back then. But he was never as good on the road, or with multiple day comps, and his track record of injuries was painful to watch. The original Strongest Cop in the World before Poudstone.
