I think it had something to do with the likeness of the Raggedy Ann doll. I don't think the copyright for the doll had expired at the time so they would to have to liscense it at the time the first Conjuring was made. Correct me if I am wrong

I had one growing up and I can imagine if they actually put it in the film it would lose its innocence and ability to be a child's toy. It's all about image. I remember when I was young my grandmother had a copy of the painting with the crying boy in here house. For years it seemed weird having a painting like this in our home. I can still remember to this day the feeling I had when I discovered that it was supposedly cursed, it felt like we had something in the house that it did not belong there, that it had a hidden story of its own. There was never an accident with fire that it mysteriously linked to the painting. After some time the frame broke so we had to replace it, but somewhere in the process we lost the painting of the little boy.

'The Curse Of Tutankhamen's Tomb' was invented by a writer on an English newspaper, possibly the Daily Mail. Other Egyptian tombs have been known to carry warnings of curses, but they were placed to deter tomb robbers - most, if not all of whom, would have been incapable of reading the long forgotten hieroglyphic inscriptions. Howard Carter, who discovered Tutankhamen's tomb, died peacefully many years later.
