The expedition of Christopher Columbus was a failure actually as he wanted to find the Eastern part(Asia) and especially India but he went onto find USA and landed in Hawaii.
@kevinrwhooley94394 жыл бұрын
An expedition that was a kinda success was the 1914-1917 Endurance expedition of the Irishman Ernest Shackleton. The goal was to make the first land crossing of Antarctica with 27 other men. Their ship got trapped in the ice for 10 months before sinking. The crew then endeavoured to travel 1300km in lifeboats to South Georgia to be rescued. Despite the starvation, the storms and the freezing cold, no one died. So it was a failure in that they didn't achieve their goal but it was a sorta success that nobody perished.

I just watched a doc on Mallory and Irvine. The guy you showed went back up to find Irvine. A body matching the description of a climber in clothing from Irvine's time had been seen by a Chinese climber in 1960, and then again by a Sherpa in 1995 in a cutout (forgot the term). Unfortunately when they finally were able to get to the spot, I want to say last year but maybe a little earlier, the body was gone. Believed to have been dragged over the abyss of the North face by an avalanche.

According to the rescue workers involved with the Dylatov Pass Incident, there were absolutely no signs of an avalanche occurring nearby. The hill the tent was located on was also not steep enough to produce an avalanche, so no, it was definitely not an avalanche that caused the tragedy.

I don't understand why the Amelia Earhart section didn't mention that the antenna snapped during take off. As a matter of fact you can see it happen in this video. If you look as their in the take off run you can see a puff of dust. What snapped was the part of the radio system that picked up radio signals. Though they could still transmit they could not receive. You can hear Earhart, calling out to get their bearings, but since they couldn't hear any response, the worst happened.

Percy Fawcett R.I.P.
@christineparis56074 жыл бұрын
In looking for the lost city of Z, Percy Fawcett had to be the worst possible explorer to invade the area where suspicious tribal peoples made their home. He was more of an "East India Company man", accustomed to commanding, bullying and taking out his moods on the poor and down trodden natives of India, who were completely unlike the proud and savagely efficient natives of South America. Not only did he think being rude and stern with the locals was proper policy, he took his young son and his sons best friend, both in college and with zero experience in the kind of expedition Percy enjoyed. The friend was miserable and wanted to leave before they had even gotten started, realizing he was completely unsuited and unprepared for the upcoming dangerous months, and possible years, ahead of them, he had also begun a romantic relationship "back home" and just wanted to go be a small town boy in college after all. Fawcett was relentless in encouraging them to "make their mark" on history and find fabulous riches in a city made of solid gold that he was sure was there waiting for them in the jungle. Even more tragically, for years after they vanished, expedition after expedition went searching for them, and also disappeared without a trace. I think up to 100 people died trying to find them. There is a book and film that explores the likely possibility that Percy had insulted the natives in the deep interior and they, not having it, had killed them....

I read a Wonder Woman comic about Amelia Earhart. In the story she ended up crashing on Themyscira. After being interrogated she stayed there trying to fix up her plane. She ended up staying there for the rest of her life and took Diana under her wing to teach her how to fly. Cute story.

I bet the Hysterical Channel would claim, "The aliens did it!" Seriously, I've seen a couple of TV programs that said that evidence was found during and after WWII that the Japanese not only had captured Earhart and Noonan were not only captured by the Japanese military, but their plane was still intact, too. On the other hand, the famous female aviatrix, though celebrated as a skilled and daring pilot, really wasn't all that skilled: she seemed incapable of learning proper use of, and procedures for, her radio equipment, even deciding to leave behind the trailing antenna that, if she'd known proper radio procedure, might have saved their lives. Also, the existing maps and charts of the Pacific were often woefully inaccurate, making Howland Island, their refueling destination, very difficult to find. The Pacific is one humongous place! Stay safe, everyone.
@HaloExMachina4 жыл бұрын
There is research suggesting that Amelia Earhart did send out distress signals. Also, while the official cause of the Dyatlov Pass incident is an avalanche, there is evidence and a great deal of belief against that theory. Of course, there is no definitive proof.

Most of these don't strike me as being creepy. Mysterious, yes, because we don't know exactly what happened, but not creepy. It's just a series of coincidences and unfortunate but not unusual events. I'm sure back in the 1600s and 1700s, way more people than we realize "disappeared" because they didn't have the technology and ability to find people who just wondered off the wrong way and got lost or killed by natural forces.
