Instead of using the Cloaker as an ambush predator, I like to play up its intelligence. Something like making them the secret master of a rogues guild. Sort of a Dread Pirate Roberts situation. Everybody thinks the cloak is a symbol of leadership, when it's the actual leader. Makes for a good low level reoccurring villain.

The flumph is the paladin of monsters. They're fun. My personal favourites have to be the mind flayer (illithid), cloud giant, and iron golem. If I'm doing an intrigue game, gotta have that doppelganger.

I'd definitely expect xorn to be domesticated by dwarves or other similar mining creatures. They're too great of a boon to not do so. As for flumphs, to me they are what happens when a beholder has a good dream. Perhaps even an entire cloister is birthed per dream, as a cooperative group is the antithesis of a beholders usual self centered mindset.

Here are a list of some of my favorite monsters (non evil creatures included) 1. Duergar: I love their pyconic abilities, connection with devils and OI love dwarves in genral but even more the Duergar are sympathetic an dtragic in that they were tricked by the mind flayers and then cast out by their surface dwarf cousins because of how they (were overcome with greed) 2. Hobgoblins: I love how they are disciplined in their fighting and how they us strategy a lot. I also love their Old Japanese ascetic and how they use magic in warfare reminds me a lot of the Fire nation from Avatar. 3. Elemental: I love Avatar The Last Airbender. Enough said 4. Hags: These are classic evil witches. I love how they make twisted Bargains, Use Weird Like Magic, They make excellent BBEG and everything they do they just do it to inflect pain onto people. My favorite is the night hag with the Bher hag coming in a close second 5. Giants: A classic fantasy monster I love the variety of each of the giants, the lore of the ordaining and each giant is diffrent. Giants can make both great BBEG or powerful Brutes and that is rare 6. Oni: I just love how they can change shape, use magic, regenerate. A solid brute monster 7. Deep Gnomes: I love how in the perilous Underdark where almost evey creature is out to get you and the Drow and Duergar enslave every creature they can get their hands on there are gnomes that help each other are every passer by and who stay in the underdark to collect gems. 8. Lizardfolk: I love how they are neutral creatures that just do whatever to survive and their allien mindset where they don''t really experience emotions and only value things to help them survive. Intresting Alternative to orcss 9. Yuan Ti: I love yuan Ti for their lore of how they were once human but transform themselves into snakes for power and how they manipulate people and mind control powers. They also make excellent Cultist, Evil Advisor and theif guild villains. They are excellent alternatives to Drow not just for their abilities, lore and snakes but also how they don't have all that "Drizzt Edgelord Clone" Bagged attached

Idea for a BBEG. Give the BBEG more AC than a cloaker, have him abuse and manipulate a Cloaker into being worn by the BBEG. So when your party fights him, they don't realize he has a meat shield. They can break the cloakers ac and not the BBEG's to give them false hope, and when it dies first that'll really emphasize to your players how evil they really are. That they would force a creature to take hits just so they can live longer.

Can someone help me understand this who immunity and healing thing? Trying to learn why he keeps mentioning that something can heal after being damaged with something it’s immune to.
@NerdImmersion4 жыл бұрын
So for example, an Iron Golem has a Fire Absorption ability: Fire Absorption. Whenever the golem is subjected to fire damage, it takes no damage and instead regains a number of hit points equal to the fire damage dealt. The Shambling Mound has Lightning Absorption: Lightning Absorption. Whenever the shambling mound is subjected to lightning damage, it takes no damage and regains a number of hit points equal to the lightning damage dealt. So if an Iron Golem takes fire damage or a shaming mound takes lightning damage, they don't take the damage and heal from it instead.

Personally, my favorite kind of monsters are dragons. Not any of them specifically, just as a whole. No other monster represents true power and might quite like the dragons do while not being simple “hit thing, eat thing” monsters. Aberrations are probably a close second, but everything else is pretty even in my book Ghosts definitely aren’t fun when you play a typically short lived race. Goblins only live like 60 years, so one or two shots of their aging ability and you’re dust.

I get that Charisma is force of personality and all, and I understand the logic behind using charisma for the possession save, BUT then it fails the sanity check of why should a musician be able to resist possession better than a cleric or a wizard. Why would a minstrel have more mental discipline than a scholar? It defies logic that a charming (high cha) albeit brainless (low int) and gullible (low wis) character would be better able to resist mind control. Or more simply put: Why would Zoolander be better at resisting possession than Dr. Strange or Constantine? Will someone please change my mind?
@Kingdomkey1236784 жыл бұрын
Allen Linnen, Jr. It’s arguable that Dr. Strange and Constantine have high charisma as well. Force of personality is more than just being charming, good leaders also have high charisma as well. Simply put if people stop and listen when ever you open your mouth in a serious situation. Your charisma score is over 13.
@AllenLinnenJr4 жыл бұрын
@@Kingdomkey123678 I reckon. Dr. Strange was the sorcerer supreme and all...
@wedlock944 жыл бұрын
It's not taking over someone by attacking the person's mind so int does nothing. It possesses someone by forcing their spirit out of the drivers seat. I usually see wisdom as willpower so for me, that would work too but generally charisma is about the persons will and spirit to push through.
@deffdefying48033 жыл бұрын
Because charming people know charming people. Takes one to know one. If a ghost tried to influence their actions, they’d pick up on it immediately, because they’ve likely tried the same thing before, or at least seen it happen within their social circle. Albeit not through outright possession, but certainly outside influence.

Then my brother who was a wizard used witch bolt, and got a nat 20... They totally wrecked it 2 turns later but i thought they were done for cause it was just a paladin, wizard and a animated broom that i gave them after i accidentally killed them with it, so yeah...
