Dowery is a "bride price" fathers literally paid someone to marry their daughter. It was not only money, sometime a certain number of cattle etc. The more the father could trade, the better the husband.

@@SILOPshuvambanerjee yes it is a terrible practice that should be outlawed. No one should pay someone else to marry their daughter or son. Although not as obvious it is along the same lines as the "rule" that the bride's parents pay for the wedding, and I'm sure evolved from a proper dowry to just a wedding payment.

I read The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Yes, Mary did fall in love with the titular nutcracker in spite of his appearance, and at the end, similar to Beauty and the Beast, Mary's confessing to this is what breaks the curse on him, and, as it turns out, he's probably actually only a little older than she is and not an adult. (He was actually her godfather Drosselmeyer's enchanted nephew.) Yes, it is very odd that they got married so young, but I'm wondering how much time actually passed between Mary's visit to Candyland and her breaking the curse. (Her family thought it was cute at first, then thought she was crazy.)

Christmas is my favorite day ever! "🎶It's the most wonderful time of the year🎶" I've been all about Christmas since I was a child. I get it from my mother. I do toys for tots etc. I start Christmas shopping in January that way I can enjoy the season.
