The most heart breaking but also heart warming titanic story I have heard is about Anne Eliza Isham. She was a first class passenger but they wouldn't let her dog, a great dane, on board the lifeboat. So she stayed behind so poor doggo wouldn't die alone. 😥
@dovetonsturdee70332 жыл бұрын
According to the unsubstantiated legend, a woman was said to have been in a lifeboat ready to lower when she was told that she would be unable to bring her Great Dane on board with her. She chose to get out of the lifeboat. A few days later, a passenger on a passing ship reported seeing a woman's body floating in the ocean and holding on to the body of a large dog. It was only in later years that Miss Isham's name came to be associated with the story, as she was the only first class woman lost in the disaster whose whereabouts during the disaster were unknown. There is no actual evidence for this story, however, as Miss Isham did not even own a dog. She was one of four first class women who died in the disaster, and her body was never identified. A memorial to her was erected by her family in Vermont.

William H. Harbeck a pioneer of the early motion pictures died on the Titanic. My mom is with his great grandson. He's shown all different kinds of things about Titanic and was even given an opportunity to play his great grandfather in a couple of scenes of the James Cameron film. However his wife was expecting twins right around the time they would've been filming so he turned it down. It's cool that he got the opportunity though and he even still has the paperwork they sent him. Love that you did this video.

They also didn’t even start loading the lifeboats until an hour and five minutes after the collision. The ship sank about two hours and forty minutes after they hit the iceberg. And they didn’t start loading lifeboats until an hour and five minutes later. So they only had about an hour and a half to get people off the ship before it sank. Also, the telegraph officers never left the communications deck. They stayed in the entire time to transmit sos signals trying to get help. Even after the communications weren’t readable anymore. They never stopped trying to get help.

Although they requested binoculars I don't believe they wanted them for night time use, many look outs have stated that they would have hindered sight in those conditions and likely would have had a similar issue. The way the water, sky and weather was all had an effect on their visibility creating essentially a mirage. Depth perception was off so the iceberg sort of appeared out of nowhere.

There’s actually a conspiracy theory about that involving insurance fraud. Basically the name plates of the Titanic and Olympic were swapped after the Olympic had collided with another ship. There’s a lot more to it than that and realistically it is easily disproved by serial numbers in parts recovered from the wreckage, but it is very interesting nonetheless.

During the time of the titanic the lifeboat regulations were very different. From what I gather ships were rewarded or encouraged to carry less lifeboats because they truly believed their designs to be unsinkable. When it comes to launching them during the incident, they didn't begin to launch until way after the initial crash which massively hindered loading and launching. They didn't follow protocol with loading, often having not even half capacity so in all a lot more people could have been saved even with what they had.

Titanic exceeded the amount of lifeboats required at the time. Which was 16. The lifeboat laws were massively out of date and really that’s due to the thoughtline that they’ll be a ship nearby to help ferry passengers from one ship to another. None of said reasons will ever be to avoid the deck getting cluttered. Which sounds ridicules because there’s PLENTY of spaces for first class passengers to be.

the Californian wireless operator shut it down and went to sleep because Philips, one of the 2 wireless operators on titanic told the Californian to shut up while it broadcast iceberg warnings cause Philips was busy sending out personal messages for guests to their families back home. Had he not reamed the guy out, the Californian probably would have still had their wireless up and running.
@dovetonsturdee70332 жыл бұрын
Californian's only Marconi operator shut down because his shift had ended and he didn't work 24 hours each day. What people have interpreted as 'Shut Up' was nothing of the sort. Marconi operators used a form of shorthand when talking to each other. Phillips' signal was probably DDD which could just as easily have been read as 'clear the frequency.' Or even 'Please clear the frequency.'

The Titanic radio man told the radio man on the California to shut up that's why his radio was switched off and he went to sleep and there were many warnings from multiple ships about pack ice and ice bergs all were ignored so no one can blame the California and SOS rockets were not common at that time so anyone on sea or land would have easily mistaken them for fire works.

People look to Cameron's fictional account as the truth. It is a made-up story. And he did not deserve an award. There have been countless Titanic films with the best being the BxW Classic, A Night To Remember. Written by Walter Lord, it details a lot of the tragedy. I suggest y'all read this tome and watch the film instead of the Cameron farce.
@WhateverULike022 жыл бұрын
We know it was a made-up account. He DID deserve the award.
@missraven4202 жыл бұрын
I've watched both documentaries about the Titanic, especially the one how they built that movie set. Cameron wanted to have has much of the reality of the Titanic but he also did that fictional story. I've never met people who took his movie as fact, most actually went deeper into the tragedy to gain more facts for it. Reading old new articles about it, reading what other historians spoke about it. There had been a challenged about how it really sunk. No one who lived through the tragedy can't even answer it, though they might not be able too. If you haven't heard - the challenge was that the iceberg never what caused the sinking but rather boilers just finally exploding. It was also challenged that the owner(can't remove his name) that fled on one of the life boats knew about the high chance of them exploding. They believed that small (big but I'm not up close to it, I can only see it through the screens and books) cut in the ship wouldn't cause that sinking but they wanted to use it as an excuse. There had been a rumor that the ship never did the proper testing because they wanted that ship out to beat it's competition. The Captain, the Crew, The people who approved of the ship's test, and the owners knew that it wasn't fully safe because of the test proper and they just got paid off by the owners. But it's just challenges, and Cameron said on the documentary about his movie, it was meant to be a mix. Having the real life tragedy, with actual people doing things the people that died on the real people did while it was sinking. But he also wanted to have a story made, he could've done it the easy way and not follow the actual tragedy and try to get as real details down and just called it the Titanic after the ship. Also there was an award for it? I don't know much of awards, and such. I barely know any Actors so I'm leaving the award thing out.

I remember A Night to Remember being in our reading list when I was in school. Very good book. And you do realize A Night to Remember was also based on a fictional storyline and characters? It also won many awards. Not nearly as many as Cameron's version but it still got the recognition it deserved. And it is conflicting information was really happened on board the boat while things were as hectic as they were.. so different versions on the movie are going to go by what they heard happened from different accounts.
@starrsmith38102 жыл бұрын
You clearly never saw James Cameron’s movie. While there is quite a few inaccuracies and at least 2 less then stellar portrayals of real people (something ANTR had as well), there was things that legitimately did happen and real people getting depicted.

Watchmojo wasn’t wrong and the way this guy put it was kinda inaccurate. It was women and children first but that’s not to say every officer didn’t allow men on.
