Violet Jessop was a ship nurse who served on each of the three 'sister' ships. Titanic, Britannic, and Olympic. I worked at one of the titanic museums that held the violin that was played during the sinking. When cleaning the music room alone with no one around I got choked up. I felt chaos and fear and sadness. I am sensitive to the energies in items and that absolutely broke my heart. Something is with that violin.

It also was tragic how the first few boats left with much space available so the rich didn’t feel crowded. They realized the severity and started adding more. Also, they knew during construction that the framing materials they used weren’t up to par. They used a less weighted material to make the ship faster and that’s also why it was easier for the iceberg to shred into it like a can opener. The whole event was so tragic.

Most people get the life-boat situation wrong. Back then, shipping between Europe and the USA was very busy/crowded so it was thought that the life-boats would only have to 'transfer' passengers between a ship in distress and the rescue ship. Indeed, the SS Californian was quite close but had dropped their anchor for the night due to the ice-field. The telegraph officer as a result retired for the evening and therefore didn't receive the SOS messages from Titanic.

I think he meant that they stopped and bunkered down for the night. The flares launched weren't in the one minute interval to indicate an emergency as was supposed to instead they were minutes apart, therefore the captain assumed it was simple fireworks. The radio operators were overworked back then and the radio operator on the californian actually warned the titanic about ice in the water, and was told to "shut up" cause the operators on board the titanic were sending private messages requested by the passengers. And they didn't notify the captain about the warning either. Being told to "shut up" is a sign that further communication isn't wanted in radio operator jargon, so the operator not needing to be at work went to bed.

I'm not sure the story you told about JJ Astor is true. I'm thinking maybe that was a story that was told after his death to make him seem like a hero. From my understanding he put his wife into the boat, asked if he would be allowed to join her due to her delicate condition, was told that they were only loading women and children at that time. It's said that he didn't argue, just helped Madeline into the boat and went to find his dog, Kitty.

It wasn't the Captain who told the close ship, the Calafornian, to shut up. Titanic has 2 wireless operators, and they were working on a backlog of passenger messages. Remember they're communicating in dots and dashes, it's not a pleasant tune. To hear from places further away they had to crank the volume. When the Calafornian sent their message, it came in full on blaring ring cause of the volume. The wireless operator threw the headset from his head and wrote back that message. The message also wasn't affixed with the proper code so it could have been seen as unimportant. Calafornian's wireless guy finished his work then went to bed. Following Titanic's sinking, it was made law to have someone watching radio communications 24/7.

Even if the Californian got under way when the flares were seen she wouldn't have made it in time, in actuality she would have arrived a minimum of a half hour after the ship went under. Reason for this is she couldn't go at full speed due to the ice and as she got closer the lifeboats in the water would be an issue to get around, as well it would take time to launch her boats to get anyone out of the water which would be a rough job due to the victims would be unable to help pull themselves up. So no no extra people would have been saved, chance are more would have parishes if the boat's were hit while she tried to get to the Titanic in the dark.

When the laws were written, the ships were not nearly as large as Titanic and nobody had ever envisioned a ship sinking alone in the night. The person who mentioned working cape race was the wireless operator, Jack Phillips and the ship that sent the warning was the Californian Also Titanic didn’t have enough lifeboats more than likely because of how lifeboats were viewed at that time. Titanic actually exceeded the amount of lifeboats, without those 4 collapsables, the death toll would have been even higher and legally they could have 16 but 4 extra ones were added. Honestly the fact that they even got all of them except for Collapsable A and B launched is incredible and even a miracle. I wonder if her reasoning for being on the Titanic was because of the coal strike that was going on at the time. A lot of other passengers who transferred to Titanic because of that.

I heard this theory but really binoculars wouldn't have helped see the iceberg sooner. Because Titanic left warm waters and ventured into cold they're believed to have entered a cold water mirage. This makes the horizon look higher than it is, with everything between the false and real horizon being invisible until you're right up on it. Additionally as there was no moonlight they couldn't see reflective light of the berg or water. The best way to identify one would be noticing the silhouette of the berg blacking out the stars, so pin point looking with binoculars wouldn't have helped

1. Titanics lifeboat quantity was legally permissible, there simply wasn't safety data for ships that big yet. 2. Titanic sank in just about 2 hours... Thats NOT a "fast sinking". HMS Barham sank in 5 minutes, Britannic sank in 30 minutes, and Atlantic sank in about 40 minutes... Titanics safety features saved hundreds, and its crew responded professionally and courageously.

I think even if the ship had the right ammount of lifeboats and they were filled to capacity. there'd be still a great loss of life. the ship sank very fast. I think there wouldnt have been enough time to send out the boats

Not that quick tbh. Her sister ship the Brittanic sank in a much faster time but was able to launch 35 lifeboats, compared to Titanic's 20. I think it has to do more with the lack of urgency, the crew and passengers not having been drilled in case of such an occurance and the fact that it was advertised as "unsinkable" that made the evacuation slow. The death toll would have still been high as the water temperature and time of rescue was so long. But more lives would have been saved if proper procedure was followed

The final 2 boats, one fell over and they couldn't get it up in time and it drifted out with the water. The other one was cabled to the ship and going to be dragged down with it and needed it's ropes hacked away to free it. Even with more boats, they wouldn't have had the time to launch them.

The flares were the wrong color. They fired white flares instead of red ones which meant mayday. The Californian thought they were celebratory flares
