Respect+++++ for pilots of United Airlines flight 232. The fact that they were able to control an almost uncontrollable plane, still managed to make an emergency landing with it without flaps and without landing gear, and at the same time approximately 60% (185 peoples) of the people on board survived, is a true miracle. R.I.P to the 111 people who died in this accident.

Unsure why the Turkish Airlines crash is not number 1. It was the deadliest crash of a DC-10 in history. It's also one of the worst plane crashes of any kind in history. At the time it was THE worst crash in history and remained so until March 1977 when two 747s collided on the runway at tenerife. And, like the Tenerife crash, it was entirely avoidable. Unlike Tenerife however, it smacked of corruption. It was the the lax attitude toward safety at the top at McDonnell Douglas and the cozy relationship between MD and the FAA that led to a known problem going unfixed after a similar incident involving an American Airlines DC-10 in 1972. It was this same "profits over people" attitude that followed McDonnell Douglas executives over to Boeing when the two companies merged. The same attitude that ultimately led to the 737 MAX fiasco. We can see little tendrils of recent history reaching all the way from the 1970s to the present day. I find it fascinating. I also hope someone reads my little essay all the way to the end. Just note the pilots of Turkish 981 could recover but again that would be unrealistic I say that because American Airlines 96 somehow recovered even with the cargo door out

​@@RBMapleLeafActually I think the American airlines had few passengers (less than 100)and they didn't lose all hydraulic fluid that's why pilots were able to control it, but Turkish airlines all hydraulic was lost, so it was possible to control it

My first and only DC-10 flight was on July 12, 1976, from LAX to Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong. We were on a Charter flight (Trans International Airlines) and made a stopover in Anchorage. Minutes after takeoff, I see fuel being dumped over Dutch Harbor as we returned back to ANC. The DC-10-30 CF suffered an engine problem, requiring a part to be expedited from St.Louis. TIA gave us a free room at the Hilton overnight, and those who declined the stay received a future travel voucher, while they camped out in the airport waiting lounges. Mom was not comfortable returning on the same airline, so we took a JAL 747 on our return flight. The final approach to Kai Tak was so harrowing and close to buildings, I actually saw a couple having sex in their wide-open bedroom. Good times…

## The DC-10: A History of Innovation and Controversy The McDonnell Douglas DC-10 is a wide-body trijet airliner that was developed and manufactured by McDonnell Douglas in the 1970s. It was the first wide-body trijet airliner to enter commercial service, and it remained in production for over 20 years. The DC10 is still flying as a passenger plane by one company. It's also flying as a fire plane it drops liquid over fires. Many are still flying as refuellers for the military.

Yes it's one of my favorites, but the DC-10(I like to call it Death Carrier 10) is very Deadly, it's one of the most dangerous and it made the Concorde crash because a piece of metal in the DC-10 flew out and the Concorde took off and the one of the tires ran to the metal then burst into flames, made the N2 engine failed, it lost speed and crashed. Also I like the Turkish Airlines old/retro livery.

I experienced of flying in DC-10 during 1980's, the strong smell of kerosene would be quite excessive in the cabin during take-offs and landings. My colleague first time flying together with me in the DC-10 was panic thinking of something wrong with the plane.

A fun fact of the DC10: 1. It is used for taking out wildfires now 2. Its more safer than the 737 Max only having 1 flaw crash while the Max having 2 flaw crash cause of MCAS 3.The DC10 isnt the death chamber its actually the DC-8

And Turkish Airlines 981 is deadliest aviation accident that did not involve a Boeing 747(except 9/11). because top 3 deadliest aviation accidents except 9/11(Tenerife Disaster: 1x747-100 and 1x747-200B, JAL123: 1x 747SR, Charkhi Dadri collision: 1x 747-100B and 1x Il-76TD) at least one Boeing 747 was involved.

There was a report, years after the accident, that the Turkish DC-10 was not caused by a door blow-out, but was actually the result of a terrorist bomb on the plane. You rated the AA 191 accident as the worst with 271 fatalities when the Turkish plane plane accident caused the deaths of 346. RIP to all who have lost their lives in these accidents.

AA 191 actually had 273 fatalities as the plane also took out 2 people on the ground. Kinda suprised that Delta 191 wasn't included in this...137 fatalities with only 20-somehing survivors. Caused by combination of inclement weather and pilot error, or error in judgment might be more accurate. Had they aborted the landing, that accident would've never happened. On the plus side, it allowed for valuable information so that they could develop and implement better equipment so that something similar wouldn't happen in the future.

How strange that this wonderful aircraft, a direct competitor of the elite flying eyesore the 747, had countless accidents. The dc10 with only three engines could sustain such a spectacular fuselage and also with a fuel saving of 25% compared to the eyesore 747. Too strange. We came to the conclusion that he was a victim of constant sabotage and it is not difficult to perceive where it came from...

I'm not so sure it had a worse accident rate that the 747. For whatever reason I love the look of the 747. The DC-10 was said to be handsome, but I admit that years of bias has formed a rather negative view of this plane. I cannot disassociate with the Turkish DC-10 crash. To me its very design symbolizes horror. The picture of a coffin shaped model of it on the cover of a book (The Rise and Fall of the DC-10) did little to help me discard that bias.

It's weird everyone blames the DC 10 for the crashes but most were caused by pilot error, design flaws or bad maintenance.

Btw una 232 engine on the stabilizer broke then they had to land but the wing strikes the ground and then the breaks apart then the nose but the middle part hit the ground diagonally the pilots last words were every one stay in brace god and then they died 😂😆😃🫥😑🙃😔🥺😵💀☠️

On July 19 1989 United airlines flight 232 was scheduled to flyed in Philadelphia too Chicago suddenly they have an Engine failure But United 232 Have an engine failure due to its hydraulic loss United 232 was clear for Crashlanding at Sioux Iowa united 232 Crashlanded and Broke into pieces And Snapped like a pencil tape sadly all 113 people are dead Only 185 survived
