Maybe its time we revisit. I have been horribly wrong many times. That being said, Koontz DOES need to bring the mustache back.

I kind of agree with you lads, I too am a big Koontz fan and have and own 76 of his works , read them all, and I agree his later stuff is very lame, Your Heart Belongs to me , being the worse offender. My favourite is Phantoms, Whispers, Darkness Falls, Shadowfires and the Frankenstein books are very good. I didn't like the Jane Hawk books and the Odd Thomas books got too lame after a while. The reason I return to Koontz is because he writes some of the most dispicable bad guys ive ever read, truly evil. But he always resorts to the soppy way out new, and although I absolutely adore dogs, his emphasis on them now has just become to ridiculous, .The Taking had a superb creepy premise that echoed Phantoms to a degree, but then tailed off into a sugar coated ending , which was a shame cus it would have been a classic.

I could of said it better. His premises are largely strong but he no longer puts the effort into them he used to. And, yeah, the dog thing has become a bit much.

Hey guys I love this video. Great insight into koontz. Just did a huge book haul today and got loads of his books like some from the odd Thomas series and also the good guy and phantoms and funhouse and loads more. Think I'm gonna start dragon tears as it sounds awesome.

nice uk edition of dragon tears man! I love me some Koontz, but I hate me some Koontz. I've read 30-some of his...but gave up on my most recent try, Dark Rivers of the Heart...just too formulaic, felt like i'd read the same story just with different character names, several times from him.

+Blahblahblah I hear you on Koontz. You should check out our video "We Need To Talk About Dean Koontz" as it touches a bit more on my love/hate relationships with the ol' Koontzer. As for The Bad Place, it sure is great isn't it? One of the few Koontz books I've read more than a handful of times. Also, thanks for the heads up on what edition of Dragon Tears that was. It doesn't clarify in the edition notice page. Figured it'd have to be either UK or Canada as my other hardcover is not only smaller but a bit less cool looking.

@@TenDollarSlimer I was super skeptical at first. Cause he had been pumping out the same old formula for years.....then bang, right in the middle of it he drops 77 shadow Street in 2011 . There where times I was genuinely a little freaked out reading it. Lol ( witch is really hard to do with horror)

So did he rewrite Demon Seed because it "wasn't up to par" or did he rewrite it to make it cleaner? I haven't read either version, but from what I understand a lot of Dean Koontz's early work, including Demon Seed, had some raunchy stuff in it, which is different from his later works. So, did he really rewrite it to make it "better" or did he just wanna take out the risqué stuff?

It still has the sexual elements, for sure. I know he was unsatisfied with how it read comparatively to his other work. You also injected a lot of dark humor to it. All in all, the revised version is better. Definitely worth a read.

@@TenDollarSlimer Cool! I definitely wanna check that one out! You guys' Koontz videos were so hilarious they made me get into him! I've never read any book by Koontz, but I finally went out and bought one called From the Corner of His Eye. I hope that one's good, it's a brick, that's for sure. The one I really wanted to read first was Phantoms, cuz A) you listed it as second, and B) all the reviews I've read online say it's pretty much scary as shit, but unfortunately, Books-a-Million ain't got a million books, apparently! :)

Corner of His Eye I can't chime in on cause it's one that fell into that dark post-Intensity period where I mostly avoided Koontzie like the plague but let us know how it goes.
