One thing I’ve learned driving in Sicily is that it’s helpful to make sure to see the eyes in the other cars at an intersection. Most drivers here are texting or talking on their phones so sometimes I give just a little horn beep so they look up and see me.

Very good video. Some of these tips, I had to learn the hard way. I exit off the highway one day into a single lane and stopped at a red light. A perfect, beautiful sunny day when suddenly I was struck from behind and I'm on the ground. The lady said she thought the light was green. Since then whenever I come to a stop sign, I pull as far to edge of the lane as possible and keep an eye on the vehicle coming up behind me.

Thank u for great tips!!! Enjoyed !! My husband back in the 60’s taught me that WE WERE ONE ON THE ROAD‼️. ( Bike him & myself) so I’ve never been just a backseat rider. I am also watching ppl on both sides of bike, if ppl see us, watching traffic approaching all intersections & always use hand signals back in the old days our bike didn’t have turn signals etc. only been in one accident & thk God never but seriously hurt. Back then we didn’t have crash bars. So I had super aware if we were going to go down I could get off bike & help to get bike of ppl. When I was teenager we went down with two bikes, my gf got pinned between the 2 bikes & lost a leg from knee down eventually losing all of that leg & part of next leg as she got gangrene from shooting dope. @graybeardbiker I like your list. Some of them I already implement, others I didn’t even think about until you pointed out the benefits of doing those things, like leaving yourself a way out at a stop by positioning your bike to the side of the vehicle in front of you. It’s not a riding but when it comes to parking somewhere like Walmart, I don’t park in the proper parking spaces but I will park in the areas at the front that are marked off so people don’t park there. If your bike is out of view because of the car parked next to it someone may pull into your parking space and not expect a bike to be sitting there.
@graybeardbiker24 күн бұрын
@@OkieOn2Wheels hey Okie! Yes I do that too… pisses off some Karens. But I’ve heard some also say they prefer that we do that bc it frees up car spaces for cars and cops have actually told me I can park in some of the striped places (though not technically legal). I’ll park right next to the building at Walmart. But I think folks should steer clear of handicap spaces… even though a lot of folks don’t event pretend to be handicap and still park there. I’d yell at someone for it

One other tip I would add is that if you see a driver doing something out of the ordinary, make some distance and stay extra alert. I found that out the hard way when someone moved over two lanes in front of me into the parking lane and then decided to make a sudden u-turn 😬 And you're right about giving away to bigger vehicles. I listen to the Adventure Rider Raw podcast all the time. And those guys have mentioned multiple times that it's rather the rule of the road in other countries that might makes right. I have now recovered, and back to riding my 2018 Milwaukee eight classic… What saved my life was my full face Shoei helmet, which was completely ground down on the left side of the helmet. I had no road rash at all because I wore all the gear. Please don’t take this wrong my fellow biker, in your video you were wearing Skull helmets, and T-shirts, not only that you had your passenger dressed the same as you. moving from side to side does not heat the tires on a motorcycle, braking and accelerating does. the more friction, the more heat. braking and accelerating harder will increase friction, while moving from side to side barely create any additional friction at all, but it's fun to do! braking only at straight line? no. trail braking is better. Not sure about advocating braking in a straight line rather than learning to brake in a corner. It is t for race tracks it’s for life. @@graybeardbiker thank you. The amount of people that think you can’t brake in a corner are doomed to going into the oncoming traffic if ever they find themself in a situation. When in reality you can brake in a corner. You can brake exceedingly hard in a corner. When you cannot do is surprise your brakes. ( and careful not to lock up the rear release and then high side ) But you knew that.

@@graybeardbiker a rider habbit I might dare suggest should be left at the track, trying to “ hit the apex” I’ve find it ironic. Even hypocritical when people say don’t ride in the center of the lane because of oil drippings. And then tip the bike onto the shoulder of the tire where they have the least grip and cross that “hazard “ twice upon every bend. Your not racing there is no need for apexes. If you are racing get off the road. Stay in the drivers side wheel track and stay visible while maintaining your escape route to the outside of the lane. Call me boring but I am a commuter biker. I enjoy being on my bike so much more than I enjoy being at work. So why would I want to get to work faster by spending less time on my bike. The long way around the corner is the way for me.
@ne-adv26 күн бұрын
Own a cruiser, crotch rocket, ADV. Beginners should brake in a straight line, but all riders should learn to trail-brake as soon as they are comfortable on their motorcycle. What I see the most is new riders carrying too much speed into curves/turns. They overdrive the distance they can see, and suddenly are dealing with a hazard in the road or a decreasing radius turn, and they have no good way to slow down, because they entered too fast. And new riders will make the mistake of trying to keep up with others, trying to make up ground when those they follow go into a turn. Those in front slow down, the new rider sees they are gaining on them and DON'T get rid of the speed, and end up wide. Once a rider learns trail-braking, they are braking is turns and curves, and are braking while leaned.

@@graybeardbiker A hybrid of a 80's street bike and a dual-sport/enduro. Some are more street (adventure tourer) and some are more off-road. The main thing is the adventures are more comfortable for really long distances (for the most part, no bike is perfect) and you have more options for terrain, not that you can't take a cruiser on dirt roads. Mine is a 1000cc and loaded with camping gear and all, around 600lbs. But I get 40+ mpg and can go over a curb or a foot high log. The biggest problem I see with riders today, they ride next to the white line closest to the shoulder, or they ride close to the yellow line, if you give a vehicle room they will take it, myself I always rode in the tire tracks on the road on the left side from the middle, that blocks some, from passing me on the right and if they do they are on the shoulder but I’ve never had anyone do that and if they pass me on the left they will have to pass in the other line just how they pass another vehicle, one of my buddies rode more than I did so he felt he was an expert compared to me, but he was a white liner and a yellow liner he gave to much space and one day a vehicle went around him, and hit his handlebar knocked his mirror, I agree with you make yourself big hog the road your paying taxes on it too.
