I actually liked Le Fou’s character change; somehow he became more human in the remake and it was kind of a better ending for him to be pardoned and hopefully find romance than to just be chased out of the castle and never be seen again.

Another small (and annoying, in my opinion) change in the live action version is when Mrs. Potts answers Cogsworth question for the Beast when he asks why the Beast let Belle go. I think it's so much more romantic in the animated movie when the Beast says he let Belle go because he loves her.
@JStryker47

Also in the original, when Belle sees her father collapse in the snow, Beast has a moment's hesitation to think about the risks before he tells her to go to save him; whereas in the new one, he just tells her right away. The original approach to that made for better character development.

JStryker47 I actually think the way he immediately lets her go in the remake is even more romantic, I mean think about it he knows he's giving up his close and probably only chance to end the misery he's lived through the last number of years yet he cares so much for Belle that it doesn't even take 10 seconds for him to know what the right thing to do for her sake is, as though he had already thought about what he should do if her father needed her to go back to him, if that's not love I don't know what is.

Another thing that the 2017 remake is different from the 1991 film is that we realize that the prince was raised by his cruel father after his mother died. That also shows us why the prince was arrogant and selfish in the first place.

While the animated Beast wants to make THE MAXIMAL IMPRESSION to Maurice, the live-action Beast is barely seen and doesn't say a word. The animated Beast considers Belle to be brave and selfless, while the live-action Beast considers her as simply a liar. He says ''She's the daughter of a common thief'', as if he'd been waiting for the white-carriage princess (and it's quite strange, why did he leave her in his castle, if he didn't want to get any deal elationship with her). In the library scene, the live-action Beast behaves as if Belle's company is unpleasant to him, and even she has much more fun without him, yes it's. The animated Beast eats in the ''doggy'' manner by habit, and Belle is being confused by that. The live-action Beast eats from the bowl voluntarily, for paying a little bit of attention to Belle, because she can't take her eyes off the book. The snowball game in the live-action movie doesn't really look like a game, because the Beast knocks Belle down as if he wanted to get rid of her, because a falling with your head back on a stone floor is quite dangerous.

I feel like the prince's father was the one responsible for the prince to get cursed. If the prince's father wasn't heartless and cruel, the prince wouldn't have rejected the old woman (aka. the Enchantress) and turned into a beast. I feel that the prince's father should've been the one to get cursed, but he probably died before the prince was cursed along with his servants.

DUDE! What about how in the 1991 original, Maurice was just as blind-sided and awe-struck by Gaston’s machoism whereas in the 2017 remake, he was not about to let an arrogant egotistical blowfish have his daughter’s hand in marriage?! That was honestly my favorite change in this remake. And what about how in the 1991 rendition, they keep Lefou as Gaston’s minion, and in the remake, he makes the bold move of turning against the mob partway through the fight? Another great change!

The biggest thing, in my mind is that they returned the theft of the rose to the story. You see, one of the most iconic parts of the original fairy tale was that Belle's father took a rose from the Beast's garden that Belle asked for. This pretty much kicks off the entire conflict of the story. In the fairy tale, it was to show that Belle had simpler, less lavish desires than her two greedy sisters. The animated film, with the two sisters being gone and simplicity not being one of the virtues they were trying to promote, that scene was changed. The remake reintroduced it by reimagining the rose as a symbolic link to Belle's mother.

C&M Punk did not. In the live action, Emma portrays the character perfectly, and I can see the expression and emotion on her face change, subtlety but surely. Belle in the 1991 version is too girly, and not strong enough. This is only my opinion though

That has nothing to do with Emma Watson If the writers dont make the script better, Emma Watson can't make more out of it! After all, she has to do whats written in the script. So if there's not more written about how she should look, act, etc, she has to stick with that. You obviously haven't seen a movie script before

I have mixed feelings about the song though. I'm not trying to make any negative comments on it, but just hear me out. To me honestly, the song felt a bit out of place or forced yet I still liked it. In the original movie, you hear an anguishing roar from the beast as Belle rode away to save her father and you felt his pain. In this song, however, we do hear him basically explaining how he feels hurt by her leaving but knows that he truly has felt real love. I don't hat the song at all, yet I found it kind of out of nowhere and threw me off a bit. Also, Dan Stevens really has an amazing and powerful voice both speaking and singing so great job good sir.

ladyvenusdragon Really? To me it felt like it fitted perfectly and it was very well introduced, with the scenes leading to it fluidly flowing into the musical part. :) I agree on Dan Stevens’ performance: I didn’t like when they casted him but once I saw the movie and heard him, I completely changed my mind; he is awesome, and his rendition of Evermorer is way better than Josh Groban’s in the end credits. 😍

Usually I’m able to control myself in public crowds and keep my sobbing contained to just a soft cry until I’m alone and then I can “let it all out,” but Dan Stevens’s performance was just so heartfelt and flawless that it instantly pulled at my heartstrings & it broke me in an instant! They also changed "ten years we've been rusting" to "too long we've been rusting", which sorts out the age issue. Also it's a small thing, but I like how they gender neutralised the beginning to "if he could earn THEIR love in return" as opposed to "her". It opens up the possibility firstly of him loving someone of any gender, but also I think to the possibility of any kind of love, not necessarily romantic. If he'd just made an awesome friend who ended up loving him, I feel like that would have broken the curse too.

I don't ever intend to watch live action remakes, I guess I don't like change lol. They can't come up with a new Disney renaissance so they decide to remake the ones from that era. I would only change my mind if they made a darker and more gothic remake of Hunchback. Then I might watch it.

Hear, hear! There is no point in remaking movies that are already good, even perfect, to begin with, so this is just an easy cash-grab for them. What they should be doing is remaking bad/mediocre films and *improving* on them. THE BLACK CAULDRON has so much potential as a live-action remake, but Disney won't dare touch it, because it flopped big time and is not a recognizable entity. In short, Disney today is too successful/established and thus complacent. The company has only ever been creative/adventurous in the years when it was struggling, because they had nothing to lose. But these trying times produced such classics as SNOW WHITE, CINDERELLA, and THE LITTLE MERMAID even kicked off the Disney Renaissance!

One of my favorite differences that wasn’t mentioned was the reason why the Beast imprisoned Maurice. In the original film, the Beast imprisoned him just because he was “trespassing.” In the newer film, he imprisoned him because he stole a rose. He saw Maurice as merely an elderly man who got lost in the woods and figured would move on if he had some food and a chance to warm himself up, which was true, but didn’t count on the old man stealing a rose. This was exactly what happened in the original fairy tale that was written in 1740 in France. I know this because growing up, I had a storybook that was pretty much the shortened version of the original fairy tale (this was my all time favorite story growing up, and it still is) and it was real different than the Disney version. Then again, the Disney films are always different than the original legends/fairy tales

They changed the horse, Phillip, he was a bigger Clydesdale and was a pivotal roll in the animated version. I didn’t like this version. Gugu mbatha should’ve played bell and they should’ve kept the final scene of the roof of the castle. This version broke my heart! So many opportunities wasted!

I actually loved a lot of additions and details in 2017 one more than the 1991 one. Of course the original will always be the original, but the 2017 one was a REALLY good live action remake. It had the magical feeling, I LOVED "Evermore", "How does a moment last forever", " Days in the sun", "Paris of my childhood" and of course the 2017 version of the ballroom scene+Beauty and the Beast song. The ending actually made me cry (and of course emotional too, if not cry) which the 1991 version failed to. Just accept the fact that both are great and move on. Don't stay stuck on this one when live action remakes like Mulan exist

I think they took the animation to cinematic viewing brilliantly. The fact they added songs with the original composers made original viewers like myself instantly accepting of them because they didn’t detract from the animation and only added to the film. In terms of Emma’s singing, Paris Of My Childhood is sung live on set, if you compare the cd recording then the version in the movie, they sound entirely different. No, she is no Sam Barks but I think you have to imagine it instead as...what if people did just walk around singing spontaneously? Not everyone is going to be perfect.

I actually didn’t like the new one and the biggest change for me to get used to was the fact that Emma Watson has an English accent while playing a French girl, it was upsetting to say the least. Also another thing that was disappointing was the auto tune, if Emma Watson cannot sing, then I’m sure there was other people who would’ve played the character better and could sing a lot better.

Like the 2017 version much, much, much more than the original, which was fantastic. Emma Watson is perfection and Dan Stevens as the Beast is incredibly appealing, and his voice (you can listen to his real voice without all the machinations on KZbin) had a very palpable tenderness. While not a singer, per se, Dan Stevens has that distinctive voice like melting butter, and the acting chops to make this so believable. I'm hooked. And the great cast......

I actually liked her singing better then you did, but you have to remember that Emma Watson has not really been much of a singer prior to this movie. She of course best known for playing Herimone Granger in the Harry Potter movies, and has gone on to do other movies since the Harry Potter series ended. She actually had to take singing classes for this movie, which assuming you think she should have taken more. But if you really think her singing is bad, watch the movie version of Mamma Mia and pay attention to the song SOS when Pierce Brosnan sings his part on the songs, and tell me what you think?

They added new songs which was not needed and they felt like they didn't fit well into the movie, they ruined old songs by adding extra bits to it and they also ruined the film by adding extra scenes. 1991 > 2017 The only difference 1991 is better than 2017 in every way, the singing, the songs, the animation, the actors... And the rose made sense without having to see the enchantress in the movie (like in the 1991 one). They should've done the actual stained glass, that woulda been beautiful and worth it. I feel like there was no need to extend the story, if people really wanted to connect with the beast so badly that is a Disney story that has been adapted, if no one knew.

The original was so much better in my opinion. Emma Watson wasn't very good with singing which Belle does quite a bit of in the movie. In all honesty none of the live action remakes so far have been able to surpass the original. Cinderella was meh, the Jungle Book was also just alright the only cool aspect of that was the telling of the red flower, and I feel the same is going to be done to the Lion King, Mulan, and Aladdin. I wish Disney would stop remaking the classics and start making new movies like Moana with new stories ,new princesses, and heroines. I'd personally love to see an African Disney princess. Also to those people talking about movies like this filling plot holes, all Disney movies have plot holes are we going to redo them all with mediocrity just to fill a plot point that no one cared about when they were young? I think that is a dumb reason to make a movie personally. I fell in love with these movies as a kid not because of the minor details, but because they were vivid, lesson learning, fun, had the best loveable songs and characters. If you can't make those things and recreate that magic then what truly is the point?
