Yeah I have a German friend who traveled around the U.S. and says the different regions have enough cultural differences to be different countries in Europe. :)
@BigMjolnir8 жыл бұрын
Very true about regional differences. Mid-Atlantic: you'll be lucky if the sales person knows what's in the store, or even looks up from their personal call while taking your money at checkout. North central: good work ethics, everyone friendly, good manners. New Yotk: abrupt, but competent. Texas: get to business before spending at least 30 minutes discussing the weather, mutual acquaintances, and family and they'll think you're from New York. And so on. Driving styles vary too...from polite to homicidal.

In 2004 I went to London, Paris, Frankfurt(just to meet two internet friends), Rome(met an internet friend in Rome too but that is not the reason I went there!) and Pompeii. I know this is totally unscientific, but the people in Frankfurt were by far the friendliest of all the cities! I guess it's because we have this image of Germans being stoic hard workers, but that really surprised me!(btw I'm American).

I worked more than a decade in customer service and trust me when I say, if someone in the states is being nice to you at a store or restaurant it's because they're being paid for it. They usually don't care how you feel mainly because of their crap pay check every week or biweekly. I worked for Walt Disney World off/on for 11 years (17-30) and they pretty much brainwash their employees in being overly polite. Still to this day when I leave a restaurant or store I tell people to have a good day when in actuality, I really don't care if they do or not. I can't help it, literally.

As a New York, I expected to find a lot of what you said of LA is not true about NYC, BUT, I found that most of what you said about LA just as applicable to NYC. Except NYC might be cheaper, aside from rent NYC can be inexpensive, and American Positiveness (6) is not always sincere or universal (but often is).

This was one of the first videos I've ever watched of yours. it was when I was preparing for my big move from NYC to London in 2017. You made me laugh so much and got me so pumped up to move, which, even though I really wanted to go, was still hard insofar as leaving my home and making such a huge change. Watching this and other videos like it really upped my excitement level in moments of sheer nerve. Thank you. :)

Another excellent video which I thoroughly enjoyed, well done! Being an Englishman who has lived on the West Coast I can totally identify with some of your observations. The English accent gets us so much better service and I really missed being treated so well when I came back to the UK. Also, I think we can learn from the American positivity. It’s something we in this country should try to emulate. I certainly have and can report that in business being positive works wonders, especially when you don’t know what you are talking about LOL

Always enjoy watching your show. Some good comments here too about regional differences. I like your impressions of Los Angeles and London. I visited New York City last year, and the people there are so friendly, the experience blows me away every time. Glad to hear L.A. gave you a similar impression. As a teacher in a lightly-populated area, I can tell you that every school has its own culture. You just drive 6 miles, and it's like entering a whole new world.

Being relatively new to the channel, I don't know if you've already said this, but for example I'm curious what you do for living. What's your nine-to-five job? At the end of the day, just do you. If you want to experience one of the coolest cities in the US, with the nicest/fun people, visit Chicago. One of the first things I noticed about London when I was visiting is how different the social scene is...specifically how people tend to just stay within their groups and dont go up to talk to anyone else. This is why you see more "confident" people in the US. They are just more outgoing with complete strangers and women are more friendly if they are interested or not. I may be moving from Chicago to London for work soon and this video is making me think I wont like it!!!

This was a fun one, Ms Hart! I wonder if you experienced the other thing I've noticed about us Americans. It often seems to me that when we meet a European that a lot of us will go "Oh, you're from (blankistan)? My ancestors came from (blankopolis)!" As a nation of immigrants we are often inordinately concerned with perceived roots.
