Making Snape the number one choice is insane. Like give him somewhere in the bottom 5 of this list but not number 1! His redemption only came about from his love for Lily. He tried to convince Voldemort to kill Harry and James but keep Lily alive and when Voldemort said no he only protected Harry because of her. And let's not forget that Neville, who had watched his parents get tortured and knew the horrors of the world, was most afraid of Snape when faced with a boggart. He had no reason to torment Neville but his own cruelty.

Especially when there was a much more obvious, and much more fitting inclusion, from the Harry Potter franchise. Sirius Black. Unlike Snape, there was never any debate whatsoever as to whether or not he was good or evil all along. Sirius wasn't a former death eater -- he was a wrongfully convicted man.

TV characters? Like who? I can only think of Billy Hargrove from Stranger Things, but even as a Billy Hargrove fan, I would say that’s too much of stretch since all it took to redeem the poor dirtbag was being reminded of his mother, sacrificing himself to save the girl he kidnapped in order to sacrifice to the brainwashing mushy monster, and apologizing to his stepsister whom he mistreated before. If they resurrect him, I’m gonna cry..

Godzilla isn't good or evil. It just is what it is. More of a force of nature than anything else. it's incapable of the necessary operational cerebral levels to have any thoughts about morality and with out that it can't be good or evil. because being either depends on the ability to ponder the morality of ones actions.

I know I’m going to go against the norm here but I still don’t like Snape. He physically, mentally and emotionally abused his students (mainly Harry and Neville) when in the long run of protecting Harry he didn’t have to…at all. He tortured Neville because he was slightly in a minuscule way the reason why Lily died. He tortured Harry because he IS the reason that Lily died and because he looked like James even though personality wise Harry was quiet different from James. Just because you were in love with a woman who didn’t love you back and was actually married and just because her husband used to mock you when you were teenagers (a time when most people are pretty stupid) but then grew up and became a brave, sacrificial husband and father does not mean you get to torture their child for six-seven years of his life. When they child himself did absolutely nothing to deserve it. I know tons of people like Snape and while I agree he is a very well written character and Alan Rickman was PERFECT in his role of him I will never agree with Snape’s “redemption” story.

He was also trying to save the other Replicants. They existed as slaves in a system that was happy to shorten their lifespans in order to maintain control over them. From his perspective, he was a freedom fighter. In the end he was unwilling to kill Deckard.

Think about Rita in Groundhog Day. Phil has known her for thousands of days, and went from trying to seduce her to actually falling in love. From Rita's perspective, she's really only known Phil for a couple of days, thinking he's an absolute jerk. Again from her perspective, she had a one night stand with this jerk, and he proposes to her the next day. I wish them the best, but I have my doubts.

To me, the Louis Renault one is the ur-example in how to make everyone think you are a bad guy when, in perspective, you are a morally gray man in a time of war. We all can agree that corruption is a bad thing, but as narrator's said, can be both ways and as his morals are skewed, they are not outright villanous.

Severus was a difficult person who, wracked by guilt at having been a Death Eater and rage at Voldemort for murdering Lily, devoted himself to avenging her so completely that he committed to mentally blocking any emotion that might have given him away to "Voldy", knowing that he would instantly be killed if he was suspected. He did have a moment of weakness and insisted that Dumbledore release him, but the latter knew that would ultimately be destructive. (It helped that turns out James really was a jerk. Harry could get along without Snape's friendship but not without his protection.) Being nice is indeed different from being good!!

Snape wasn't good. He only turned against Voldemort because he killed Lilly, and only helped Dumbledore because of the guilt he felt for his involvement. But he always remained committed to the dark arts, and would've replaced Voldemort if he had lived.

Snape's performance as a teacher in the Harry Potter books was terrible, he's the person that Neville feared most. He also targeted Harry due to his resentment towards James. In the end he did the right thing due to his loyalty to Dumbledore and his undying love for Lilly. He's neither good or bad...just human
