That is why crane operators get paid big bucks. The capacity of the work-load should have a 50% calculated buffer to provide safety. When the projects try to ‘ cheat ‘ by not providing a larger, more expensive crane, crap happens. Would have been so much cheaper to have a sufficient size machine.

Many crane fails aren't caused by the load, there are many factors that cause crane acidents. Not long ago 4 or five people where killed not properly dismantling.

That is why in America you need to go through intensive training to get your National Commission of Certification Crane Operations certificate, and that's for each class type of lifting equipment you're gonna be operating. You're gonna have to be very knowledgeable of the nomenclature, technical, as well as the crane safety aspects of a crane operations, hands-on skills, seat-time, pre-planning on any lifting operations, etc. And, even if you have all the qualifications and certifications to proficiently operate a lifting equipment, there's always the possibility of the unseen hazards on any work sites, transporting of equipment, making difficult maneuvers in confined places, etc. Know your surroundings!!
