Another important fact which barely anyone knows : The MP3 format was invented by the Frauenhofer Institute of Technology in Germany. Until then, digital sound recordings were full of sound wavelenghts unhearable to the human ear. Such wavelengths are produced by all musical instruments but we can only hear a tiny fraction of them anyway. All those redundant informations made the music files gigantic (several hundred megabytes for a single song of just around 5 minutes of length) By developing an algorythm which was used to erase all those unhearable wavelengths, the file size was immensely reduced while everything you can actually really hear, was fully retained. This ultimately enabled billions of people today to store all their favourite music in relatively small space and carry them around on portable devices like smartphones, ipods etc. :-)
@_modiX9 жыл бұрын
+Celeon999A The WAV format that existed before is still used on audio discs allowing to store around 70 minutes on 700mb. Also interesting, the Fraunhofer Institute of Technology never set up any patent, thus the MP3 was given away for free, they got nothing out of it. It was not planed, the compress and play software (prototype) was leaked to the public, so the MP3 format became public before any patent could be set up.

Correction: The earliest known form of woodblock printing came from China dating to before 220 A.D. Johannes Gutenberg introduced *mechanical movable* type printing.

Further correction, the first porcelain movable type was invented about 1040 in China, and the first metal movable type in Korea in 1377

The first Book printed by the Gutenberg-System was a Latin Bible. Luther translated the Bible into German around 30 years after Gutenbergs invention.

Still the Ulmer Münster has the highest churchtower with 161,53m (about 530 feet) - which is also the highest in the world - while the Kölner Dom is "only" 157,38m high (about 516 feet). Some say they build the top of the Münster steeper as planned and put a bigger cross on the top only to get higher than the Kölner Dom.

Another fact about the Adidas-Puma thing: PUMA actually stands for "Probier Unbedingt Mal Adidas" what means "You need to try Adidas". They tell you that when you work at headquater of either Adidas or Puma :D

This video is right about every fact mentioned. But as a german I am a little bit confused about the selection as it mostly does not nearly represents we really care about. The funniest thing for me was that bread seems to be somerhing special. Drinking beer is more obvious. Yes, the autobahn is very special to Germany but we have a problem to maintain such a dense infrastructure. Furthermore we currently also think about speed limits. But not because of accidents. It is about ecology. The most important things for us are work, quality cars and individualism. I think the selection is distortes the reality a little bit. I only want to mention that.

Well, highways here sometimes have speed limits like about 80 mph, but only near cities etc. , but not in general
