What's the diff between heir apparent and heir presumptive, please? Thx :)
@martinen.50253 жыл бұрын
@@TheCandiceWang As a British person who knows about these things, please may I explain? What I'm going to explain to you has now changed as of October 2011, but we'll talk about the change in law in a bit. An heir apparent is the person who, unless they die, WILL become King on the death of their mother or father who is the sovereign. Charles is the heir apparent. He cannot be overtaken by ANY other person. An heir presumptive is the person who, unless they die, is PRESUMED will become Queen on the death of her mother or father who is the sovereign. Now, you are wondering why I said King for heir apparent, and Queen for heir presumptive? Good question! Before the Queen changed the laws regarding primogeniture, (on 28 October 2011) ANY female born to someone in the line of succession, would be lower in the line of succession, to ANY males born after her. A good example of this is Princess Anne. Princess Anne is the Queen's SECOND child but is lower in the line of succession than her two younger brothers, Andrew and Edward, and their offspring and their offspring's offspring. This is the way aristocracy works and always has been. Now, the reason the previous person HALF correctly (it is heir presumptive, not heiress presumptive) referred to Princess Elizabeth as the heir presumptive is because, at the time of her uncle David's (Edward VIII) abdication in 1936, not only was her mother, aged 36, still young enough to have had another child who may have been male, but as long as her father was alive he could have had a legitimate son who would have outranked her - if her mother had died and George VI remarried and produced a son. Now, in the same year that William and Catherine married, and before the birth of any children, a changed in primogeniture law was passed by the Queen, which had to be agreed by the heads of state of every Commonwealth country, so that any girls born AFTER this date would not have younger brothers being above them in the line of succession. If William and Catherine's first-born had been a girl, we would have a Queen after William. What the change in law DOESN'T do is to change the order of succession for people born before this date. Heir apparent: Charles 2: William 3: George 4: Charlotte 5: Louis 6: Harry 7: Archie 8: Lilibet 9: Andrew 10: Beatrice (when Beatrice's baby arrives everyone moves down one place!) 11: Eugenie 12: August Brooksbank 13: Edward 14: James, Viscount Severn 15: Lady Louise Windsor 16: Princess Anne 17: Peter Phillips 18: Savannah Phillips 19: Isla Phillips 20: Zara Tindall

Jaded Wonderland the Duke of Windsor had mumps as a teenager. None of his many girlfriends or mistresses ever got pregnant, nor did his wife, and many historians think now he was probably sterile. His father King George (whatever number he was- V?) was on record as saying he hoped Edward (or David, as the family called him) would never have children and “nothing will keep Bertie and Lilibet from the Crown.” Queen Mary worked with Elizabeth’s governess to make sure Elizabeth had a more suitable education for a Queen than her mother had planned. Which The Crown kind of forgets about in the episode where Elizabeth is reading the riot act to her mother about her lack of education. She didn’t learn Trigonometry but she was well educated in languages, history and constitutional law. If it had been left up to her mother she probably wouldn’t have been as well educated, but Queen Mary was extremely well educated for a woman of her time and as Queen, wife of the reigning king, she actually had more say about Elizabeth’s education than her parents did.

Oh no, Charles was in fairly regular communication with the Duke of Windsor and visited him once. Also, Jean Lapotaire gave a beautiful portrayal of Princess Andrew (nee Alice of Battenberg) of Greece and Denmark, Prince Phillip's mother. The Queen and Prince Phillip share a common ancestor as great-great grandchildren of Queen Victoria. Her great-grandfather was Edward VII, and Phillip's great-grandmother was Princess Alice, younger sister of Edward VII.

Another historical "slip". In the 1st episode of season 3, we see the Queen's other living uncle, Henry, Duke of Gloucester at a dinner party. His wife Alice teases him about his perfect "spy" qualities--unnoticeable and unremarkable. He shoots a retort back to her. They're both seen briefly in other episodes (without dialogue) when the family "convenes". But he's also seen (albeit quite briefly) at the end of the last episode, when the Queen walks past her family on her way to her golden carriage during her Silver Jubilee celebration. That would be 1977. The Duke of Gloucester died in 1974. He shouldn't be there.

Much has been made about the issue of "historical fact." It doesn't really bother me that for purposes of drama, some artistic license was taken in the show. As one person observed, "it's not the history channel." Most of the actors in this series are incredibly talented. Tobias Menzies is an absolute joy to watch, even in a role where he's reserved. One casting decision that possibly fell short; I would rather have seen someone else in the role of princess Margaret. Helena Bonham Carter has her own appeal but her performances strike me as too stylized. Maybe I just really wanted to like Princess Margaret. and her younger version was played much more sympathetically by Vanessa Kirby. Overall, I loved season three. Completely made me rethink my opinion about Charles and I felt helped me understand that family a little better regardless of certain artistic liberties.

The show's silly suggestion that Margaret achieved a US loan for the UK was trivial compared to the fanciful whoppers season 4 concocted about Margaret's discovery of the truth about the institutionalized Bowes-Lyon sisters. I think, what you are referring to as dull, it is the evolution of a person whose duty to stay neutral, has become their whole life. Since being the Queen is a 24/7 job, growing up and after all those years of doing what she does, made her lose her personality. I think it is very realistic.

While I enjoyed many parts of Season 3, what makes me scratch my head is the conspicuous absence of any mention of events in Northern Ireland and attacks by the IRA during this particular time period. I know the show tends to focus on the interpersonal dynamics of the royal family with politics playing a secondary role, but I find it odd the Troubles were completely left out during a time when a great deal of conflict was happening. Maybe in Season 4, given that should cover the time period when Lord Mountbatten was assassinated by the IRA. Or they plan on skipping it all together because no matter what perspective they take, they will stir up a hornet's nest.

“no evidence” doesn’t mean something is wrong lol. Do you really think such a private family would let all be known?? Sure, the queen admitted to having nothing to do with Charles & Camilla’s separation, but as we saw in the show, that doesn’t mean other members of the royal family did not. She ain’t the only one with the strings lol. You need to come up with something better then “no evidence” if you’re going to definitively say something is incorrect. “No evidence” doesn’t even stand up court, they call it “inconclusive” for a reason. You have to PROVE that it’s wrong.
