I discovered your channel a few months ago and I am very happy that I did. I have been a fan of this genre for a little over 50 years. I enjoy hearing your knowledge on the various titles that you feature. ALSO-your passion for the Hammer films really caused me to go back and rewatch some of the titles that I own (THANK YOU SO MUCH) Your personal story with "The Witch" had me thinking back to what really shook my spinal cord as a young boy (in my case it was " Trilogy of Terror" and The Exorcist) I remember watching the former on TV with my folks and my sister. It was quite terrifying at the time ,but now I have fond memories of the fright that I felt back then lol. I apologize for rambling- Thank you very much for all of your effort. Your channel is one that I very much look forward to watching on a regular basis !

Dead Birds is really creepy. The CGI has NOT aged well but its fine for brief, under the bed creature jumpscares. Dark Night of the Scarecrow also shows how far networks would let movies go in the late 70s-early 80s. Throwing someone head first into a piece of farm equipment wouldn’t usually be what someone thinks of when they think “made for TV.” Of course, it may have started with plans for a theatrical run (abc and cbs both produced theatrical films at that time) and the network just backed out.

One of my favorites growing up not mentioned here was 1988s “Scarecrows”. It’s pretty dopey as an adult but as a kid back then it freaked me the hell out. The ending was made more horrifying to 10 year old me by the news narrator stating the dog had to be put down for eating the owner. I grew up in the Appalachian mountains and on farms so these movies are awesome to me. My favorite farmland horror movie is without a doubt “Pumpkinhead”. Have you ever seen “Husk”? It was part of the short lived AfterDark series and took cues from basically every other movie in the vein, but it was actually pretty good for what it was. This whole video kept me thinking about the bit from The Adventure Of The Copper Beeches where Holmes tells Watson that villages give him a certain form of dread. In fact, I had to look it up. “Are they not fresh and beautiful?” I cried with all the enthusiasm of a man fresh from the fogs of Baker Street. But Holmes shook his head gravely. “Do you know, Watson,” said he, “that it is one of the curses of a mind with a turn like mine that I must look at everything with reference to my own special subject. You look at these scattered houses, and you are impressed by their beauty. I look at them, and the only thought which comes to me is a feeling of their isolation and of the impunity with which crime may be committed there.” “Good heavens!” I cried. “Who would associate crime with these dear old homesteads?” “They always fill me with a certain horror. It is my belief, Watson, founded upon my experience, that the lowest and vilest alleys in London do not present a more dreadful record of sin than does the smiling and beautiful countryside.” “You horrify me!” “But the reason is very obvious. The pressure of public opinion can do in the town what the law cannot accomplish. There is no lane so vile that the scream of a tortured child, or the thud of a drunkard’s blow, does not beget sympathy and indignation among the neighbours, and then the whole machinery of justice is ever so close that a word of complaint can set it going, and there is but a step between the crime and the dock. But look at these lonely houses, each in its own fields, filled for the most part with poor ignorant folk who know little of the law. Think of the deeds of hellish cruelty, the hidden wickedness which may go on, year in, year out, in such places, and none the wiser."
