$450 millions for the CRRC Maglev? That's a joke right? Even a cheap Chinese knock-off can't be so inexpensive for a high-speed train so I can't even imagine the price tag of a maglev project. And on top of that the cost of building 800+ miles / 1300 km of double track will be humongous! I somehow have very little trust in the costs announced by Chinese authorities. They've repeatedly lied about economic growth, seriously inflating the numbers for the past 20 years while under evaluating costs for many projects like Beijing and Shanghai subways. 450 millions dollars is not even close to the development cost of a mid-range high-speed train on wheels project... Almost 20 years ago the Shanghai Airport maglev track cost $60 millions per mile (1.2 billion US$ total), so now with China having labor costs getting closer to European costs every year, I can't begin to imagine the cost of 810 miles of new improved maglev track now or worse, in a few years... The Japanese are spending a real fortune on their maglev and the line won't be finished until 2045 to the earliest... And considering the longer time they'll take to build it, I find their numbers much more credible than the ones for the CRRC. Or will the CRRC be essentially the already developed Siemens Maglev (hence only 450 millions) with a Chinese stamp on it running on an upgraded track that will cost billions and billions?
