Her family is based somewhat on Amish culture and a lot of young adults do get to go out and experience the outside world and decide if they want to stay in the community or leave. So I imagine when she got her cutie mark she was allowed to go out and explore and ended up deciding to live in Ponyville because of the general friendly nature of the whole town.

The creators of MLP are also known for using real-life culture from around the world to create their characters and locations. It really does make sense to have the Pie family be based on Amish culture, and I think it can help to make people from all backgrounds feel included. :)

Filthy Rich is a very good -man- pony. It was a pleasant surprise when I saw he was a good person. Most rich people in tv shows are greedy, selfish, dishonest, and arrogant. I find it quite interesting that Hondo Flanks ( Rarity's dad ) wasn't on the list which is understandable but really I am so torn who my favourite is. Igneous Rock Pie is a very good dad because of his firm but loving raising to the Pie sisters which took affect on Maud I guess because of not showing much emotion, Night Light is one of them because he's quite lively when he wants to be and shows that he really loves Twilight, Shining Armour and his now only grand daughter Flury Heart. Bright Mac is there too because the his honesty took affect on Applejack like you mentioned. Look I don't want to bore you and I don't mean too but let's just say I have more than one favourite father on My Little Pony. But Dragon Lord Touch isn't really one of them although I guess he can be funny.
