This is the most feminist show I've had the pleasure of watching. One of the best things they did is how they didn't pit Rosa and Amy against each other in any way whatsoever despite them being polar opposites. (& most shows would make one better than the other or always show them fighting or competing against each other). Also, B99 is what I call a true feminist show, not shows like GOT which are feminist on the surface, but in actuality are nothing but internalized misogyny.

In my opinion, Amy was the most feminist in the show. She was viewed as one of the weirdest ones in the group but she embraced herself and never apologize for it, just grew and improved. She was mostly mocked (by Gina or sometimes Rosa) because of her clothes, interests, hobby, and intelligence, and yet she never retaliates and continued to befriend, admire, empower, and inspire the other girls.

It was undeniably the worst episode the show ever had, Gina constantly harasses Terry, and Hitchcock constantly harasses random people, including a time where Jake agreed to take a naked photo of Terry without his knowledge which is an actual crime. Being played for laughs, yet a man trying to kiss Amy is too far?
@mqple56862 жыл бұрын
@@larrysmith5393 EVERYONE has already pointed out time and time again about gina and hitchcock’s harassment. the show was being pressured about gina’s inappropriate behavior for years before she was written off the show. clearly the writers made a mistake and decided to change it for the better, writing her off the show and lessening the sexual harassment jokes in the show. what are they supposed to do, go back in the past?

i have the tiniest detail to add. when amy tells jake about her previous captain/ detective in the "he said, she said" part, there is a clench in jake's jaw. 11:38 onwards. a lot of moments of such reveal are coupled with surprise, violent anger or pity or sympathy in the least but his reaction was probably an angry gulp or grinding your teeth together to hold off a tear-- a reaction i have never ever seen from a man in any show especially while being told things he will probably never face. dont know if this was scripted or momentary but never loved andy samberg more.

Totally agree about first place, but the wedding dress moment, the "I've got your back" and Amy's conversation with her dad and Jake should have been much higher. I would add to her moment of conversation Jake's monologue to my mother's father in the episode of the marriage proposal (I'm about to propose to her, but I'm not asking your opinion. She doesn't need a man, but I still really hope she agrees). The moment of the wedding dress simply presents the matter of being a woman, you can be interested in makeup and ballet and in any case be considered a feminist, and women are not measured by only one aspect of their personality (for example, I really relate to this because I dance ballet, which is considered the most feminine thing and yet I am very I really like physics and I'm trying to get accepted to an accelerated degree program in high school). Women can be both, and there is nothing wrong with showing femininity and being badass at the same time. The moment when Amy tells Jake and her dad that she's nobody's property is also a "wait a second, I have my own opinions" moment, which unfortunately somehow not all men have internalized yet, and this moment is just a "wake up and look what happening around you" moment. The fact that asking the father for approval about the daughter is still a fairly banal thing to which Amy responds with a scolding call that I'm sure both her father and Jake internalized, reflects in an amazing way the chauvinistic customs that are rooted in our society to this day so deeply that you don't even see them as chauvinism until someone makes you wake up. The "I have your back" moment doesn't even really have anything to expand on, it's simply a moment of women's sisterhood on Rosa's part, and Amy's internalization that she no longer has to fight for her place, and that there are people who respect her.
