Hi Dana, miss your videos. Kate Kaden channel recently reminded me of you so I'm watching again. This year I'm tackling my last debt, a credit card. It's the biggest and seems like a mountain! Over the last few years I've paid off other smaller debts, built an emergency fund, live within my means and tried a few different jobs. Having some money that you owe definitely does effect your decision making, you are so right. It's subcouncise really. It does hold you back a bit as you feel guilty about getting things. I would love another cat but told myself not until I pay off this debt! My plan is to pay off a certain affordable amount each month. Then I should have £1000 left to pay at the same time my interest free period ends. ( So I have re financed this a few times with balance transfers but still pay the fee to move it.) Then when I get to this chunk left I plan to pay off this £1000 from my savings. I'm not doing it now incase I need my savings as have eight months to go. Maybe I could do it differently but it would take longer and more refincing and fees or higher monthly repayments now which isn't affordable.

I'm thankful that you made that video. I feel we get shamed when we have to make tough decisions about our pets and some people go in debt because of it. I have a friend who has a 16 year old cat that has been convinced to spend several thousands of dollars to save its life. They can't afford it and cats don't usually live past that age (average life expectancy is 10 -15 yrs) so I hate that they feel they have no other option. For this reason I will not be getting another pet after mine are gone.

Seeing your last video about your kitten reminded me about the video you made about your daughter. Last I heard her face dropping was improving. How is she doing now? I have Embrace pet insurance for my 7 year old tabby. It’s definitely worth it in cases of emergencies. Please, post more about your kitten. My boss started her cats as kittens so she has a low monthly cost @$16 a month I think. It covers yearly check ups etc. Or an emergency envelope, for those unexpected times. We have had pets all my life, they are a big part of our life and family. But, sometimes we have to make those hard decisions. It doesn't mean we live them any less, we have to be realistic regarding the money. So glad it all worked out though. I could totally feel your pain through your video that day. I hope your cat is doing better. Over the summer we had rescued a 12 week wild kitten. We only had her a few days and she got sick and we didn’t use are regular vet because of scheduling conflicts, but she was there for 2 days and still wasn’t any better. Late one night we rushed her to the emergency vet and they actually did testing (the other vet gave her fluids-that’s it). Still mad about that. The er vet said it was parvo and since she had it over a few days that her chances of survival wasn’t very good and not without long term problems. They estimate was $6,000 on top of the $800 we had already spent. I didn’t have it in the bank even as we are getting out of debt. We decided to put her down to end her suffering. It was very hard decision, even after one week of her being with us we loved her. Thanks for the tips.

Just found your channel and my second video in was about your heartbreaking experience with the new kitty. Keep in mind Emergency vets will always be much more expensive than your "regular"vet. Mine tried to charge me $200 for meds I get from my vet for $39. So glad you asked the ER to keep her alive until you could get her to your vet. Here's how I decide: If the pet will be with us for the next 10 years or more ( and prognosis is good), I move forward. My 16 year old dog required surgery in November and I had to put him down. I wouldn't put a 93 year old uncle through surgery at the end of his life, so won't do it to another member of my family. Heartbreaking, but it's the circle of life. That said, Chewy.com offers most pet foods, clothing, toys, treats and accessories at significantly lower prices than retail or specialty pet stores. I love not having to carry the heavy bag of litter from my car. I've been binge-watching your videos - sensible advice delivered in an encouraging, relatable manner. Can't wait to see the next one.
