“Strictly ballroom” is underrated beyond criminal levels. The movie is an absolute must-watch masterpiece….even those who don’t like dance movies will *love* it, trust me. ❤️❤️ And “Strictly ballrom” is Baz Luhrmann’s first movie….so no wonder he has elements from following movies…as they were inspired by it.

Love that "Strictly Ballroom" is number one. It totally deserves it. The story is endearing and the dancing is amazing. Paul is a fabulous dancer and for a non-dancer before making this movie Tara is perfect. It is a love story that is about really growing together in love through their dancing. (Not lust which is what DD is about.)The most romantic dance sequence ever filmed is when they dance to "Perhaps". The second best sequence in the film is when they learn to dance from her father. The whole film is a joy to watch. "To live in fear is a life half lived. " (Also enjoy An American President and Crossing Delancey but Strictly wins hands down.)

I read somewhere that Tara played the same role of Fran in the original small production when Baz wrote it while they were at NIDA. He later expanded the play for the fully movie. Baz did understand about the Ballroom studio and competing scene
@listfamaccount74002 жыл бұрын
@@micheledix2616 Yes, Tara was Fran in the original stage production. Yes you are correct. I was at the Premiere for the Brisbane showing. Baz gave a small talk on how he came to write the script from an expanded piece he did for NIDA where I am sure he said that Tara Morise was his original Fran as they were students together. My daughter & now son in law's Ballroom Dance Coaches ( retired Champions) gave a beautiful demonstration of the Rumba. Baz explained that he knew the Ballroom Competition scene VERY well indeed from a child. The most hilarious part is that he really parodied the real competition scene with the yelling out of names and entrant numbers etc Some comps even sell megaphones so you can yell louder🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 no different to a football match. Nothing sedate about Ballroom Competitions. I once saw at a Brisbane comp a lady competitor's dangling sparkly earring accidentally get caught in another lady competitors floating arm wing piece( it was the fashion in the early 90's). The pierced earring ripped out of her ear , blood everywhere , all over her beautiful dress, but she didn't stop the couple finished the set, bowed left the floor. She went off cleaned up, removed the other earring patched up her torn earlobe with a plaster, changed into another gown and was ready for the next round and went on and kept competing and If I remember they took out a place. Now that is dedication to one's sport
@agenttheater52 жыл бұрын

Strictly Ballroom is still one of my most favorite movies ever. It's just so beautiful, as well as hilarious! How is it 30 years old already?! ❤❤❤

I absolutely love The American President! It's one of those movies that I watched again right after finishing it, for 3 consecutive days! I'm not even overreacting!

I was so happy to see Strictly Ballroom and Crossing Delancey high up in the list... I love both movies... I ended up having my own Crossing Delancey in real life, having a love at first sight encounter with a man that I would have never noticed otherwise. I have three university degrees and run my own business. He is a chef in a fast-food restaurant and a single father of two young adult children... he was not looking and I was not looking, so it was freaky that we both had that immediate spark and feeling of knowing each other... Turned out he was the most intelligent, funny man, with the ability to live in the moment, and of course a great cook. Almost ten years together now. So I do tend to love films using the formula of opposites who find they have more in common than imagined, and both Crossing Delancey and Strictly Ballroom exemplify that.

I also would have added Under the Tuscan Sun, not a traditional rom com but its got so much heart and laughter.

“Four Weddings and a Funeral” is my favorite; IMO it far surpasses the overrated “Love Actually” though I don’t hear it talked about as much.

I first saw it in a small theater...I had to walk out for a bit because I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. While the women characters weren't terribly well written (I still mentally refer to the one actress as "duckface" anytime I see her) it's still one of my favorite movies.

"Down with Love" is amazing. The clothes alone are worth the price of purchase, and it's an amazing homage to the bedroom comedies of the 1960s. "Strictly Ballroom" is everything. Yeah.

"The Decoy Bride" is also another favorite, along with my mom. TY Netflix! I saw it there on a nice afternoon movie time with my mom with hot cocoa. It does not need to be over the top or too much. It's so funny, beautiful scenery in Scotland, such a healthy humour. I love the scene when he plays the pipes for the deaf couple.

Marilyn Hotchkiss' Ballroom Dancing & Charm School with Robert Carlyle & Marisa Tomei. Sweet, sad, and funny. I found it by accident on Amazon while stuck in a hotel on a business trip a few years ago.

"Crossing Delancey" is SUCH a great film! I saw it when it came out. I was living in NYC at the time, which made it extra special. ☺️ "Fever Pitch" was fun. I grew up in Boston, and the year they filmed the movie was the year the Red Sox won the World Series after 86 years.

The top three are some of my favorite films of all time. "Strictly Ballroom" is an amazing film with a new style of filmmaking. The good characters are all real, earthly, and in some cases gritty while the antagonists all seem like caricatures.

My list: 1: the cutting edge 2: Dance with me (still underrated) 3: the American President 4: forget Paris (i feel only my parents and I knows this film. Everything is great about it.) 5: Strictly Ballroom 6: the decoy bride (don’t watch it enough) The ones I watch the most are 1-4.
