He is one of the most versatile,, keeping in the pocket, that plays bass to compliment the vocalist, and never over plays like a lot of the bass players do. That is one reason why he has always been in great demand, especially on recording sessions.. I am also a professional musician of many years. Bass guitar,lead guitar and keyboard's player., with over 40 plus years experience

I'm ashamed to admit I have only heard of Freddie Washington this weekend! My favourite is 'Mystery' Anita Baker. 'Been So Long' a close second. Just love the way he walks the bass up and down the scales. He helped the Rapture album bring back the soulfulness in Rnb, deep in the digital 80s.
@JamesJ30t2 ай бұрын
Yeah there were serious bass lines in those 80's Anita Baker songs.
@antant4287Ай бұрын
Just an FYI, there were like 4 or 5 bassist (or more) on that album- the album the made me pick up the bass- not a bad place to start. David B Washington played Mystery and Jimmy Haslip played Been So Long. Neil Stubenhaus played on something on the album, too. But this one and the two you mentioned.... the bombs but the entire album is insane!

Awesome playing! Less importantly, but one can't but notice it: your sound is superb. That neck pickup sounds almost like a P-Bass, great clout and yet there's definition. Are those the original Fender pickups?
@JazMoss5 ай бұрын
They’re are the standard Fender pickups. I like the sound of a jazz bass with the neck pickup turned up a bit cause it sounds like a P bass but a bit more pointy… if that makes sense haha 😊

It would definitely have to be forget me nuts because the baseline does so much(bass line breakdown). There is no guitar line in the song just keys, drums, bass, vocals, and a sax solo. Always thought Prince played the baseline. You can definitely hear him doing background vocals. I definitely believe Prince learned something from this dude. “All This Love”, by the Debarge is a classic track that could have made the list.
