interesting list. only thing I didn't jive with was inscryption (not on the top 14 but still, you showed it as a fave). I got it based on reviews and it didn't hook me at all. perhaps I need to revisit it. werecleaner's characters remind me of donut county's, despite having different developers.

Thanks! That game is called Timelie, you're welcome to try it though i wouldnt recommend it if you're looking for a platformer. Its not one of my favourites just something i played this year.

Even though Nine Sols is certainly not the kind of game I'd be good at, I still immensely enjoyed hearing the passion in your voice as you recalling your memories of it, as well as the fact that you captured your own footage! Every time I hear Nine Sols was inspired by Sekiro, I have a strong, eye-rolling déjà vu of Cuphead or anything at all being "the dark souls of..."

The difference there being that nine sols actually was inspired by sekiro according to its developers, rather than people just deciding every hard game is the dark souls of its genre. I'm also against the "dark souls of" comparison.

Great list! It's so cool to see how top 10s can be so different in the indie world. I'm about (-ish) to share my top 10, it's more roguelike focused but the ones you choose seems really fun! Of course I've on my radar Nine Sols, I just started it but I hadn't the time to continue it. Congrats!

My lists tend to end up very indie heavy because i just tend to prefer them to big studio games. I do play some triple A games most years but a lot of the times they dont make my lists. I'll be sure to take a look at your top 10 when it's up

A few games that for one reason or another stood out to me the year. (I don't really qualify games of the year, I'm not sure there was a "best" game for me this year, just a list of games that I appreciated slightly more than others at the time I played them, full releases only) I've also omitted any popular games that most people might have heard about elsewhere, there were others I also enjoyed this year. Primarily for the Art: Daemonologie, Miniatures, & DICEOMANCER For developers achieving what they set out to do: Frontline Crisis, The Hungry Fly, Path of Achra (could also be in there with the top-notch gameplay ones), & Grønland Top-notch gameplay: Intravenous 2, Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery, Dominions 6 (worth the effort to learn if one is inclined) & Slice & Dice (new to Steam in 2024, deeper than it appears) Free: The Thief, the Witch, the Toad, and the Mushroom

You should play Void Stranger, it technically came out 2023 but I played it 2024 and it's my game of the year and it's not close, it might just be my favourite game of all time and I've been playing games for a long time.

Also I do not play enough video games for my own good but my own top 10 of games I played this year: Balatro Rivals of Aether 2 The Case of the Golden Idol UFO 50 The Gnorp Apologue Baldurs Gate 3 Mouthwashing Webfishing Animal Well No. 1 spot reserved for a game a friend is making Cobalt Core would be on there but I played it most last year :>

@@AntiRiku budget or no budget, almost every good indie, AA, or "triple-I" game I play is more enjoyable than even the best AAA games
