Tapestry - I traded it away because I didn't like the randomness of the Tapestry cards. If you start with a bad hand of cards, it was tough to get going. Reluctantly played it again at a friends place and it played better with the expansion and some errata on the civs. May look into acquiring it again.

House on the hill is so unique, in that, the story scenarios end up being super broken/one sided half the time... but it's ruleset is digestible enough to make the game very accessible and quick to teach, and a game usually ends up with a memorable story that usually ends up getting recanted.

I'm with you on the roast beef guy, Naveen. We were playing Stone Age with friends when one of them spilled her ice tea all over the board. We scrambled quickly to clean it up, drying the board, cards, etc. Needless to say the game ended prematurely, but we tried again later with no food or drinks on the table. Recently saw these friends again and one of them commented how particular I am about my games. What!?! Who likes the ice tea covered version of Stone Age?! Thanks for your story and the list.

I'm a bit late in watching this video, but I hope you guys got a chance to revisit Inis. I adore that game. Naveen mentioned that he wants to feel clever in his games, and counter to his point, I have seen some of the most clever, surprising plays in Inis. The fact that you have to "announce" your impending victory doesn't necessarily mean you can't do anything sneaky. I've seen several games, for example, where players have (through keen drafting and timing of card play) won the game as the last player in a round after all other players were out of cards. I also love how you are encouraged to cooperate with other players, but only one person can win. Kingmaking doesn't bother me at all, but I can understand how people might disagree with me.

The Inis expansion doesn't change the way the pretender tokens work or having to declare you are about to win, it just help decide ties so that you don't have multiple rounds of players tied to win. I think the reason declaring you are about to win works in the game is that there are multiple paths to victory and simultaneous victory can be very common, so it's not necessarily bashing the 'leading player' since there may be three players vying for the same title. Also, I think it's very thematically fitting since each player is a chieftain trying to become the high king/queen of the Celts ruling over the other clans, so it's realistic that a chieftain would publicly nominate himself while displaying he had what it takes to rule.

This was a fun video. Star Realms was one of the very first games I bought when I got into the hobby. It is a great game - and takes up no shelf space (it is in a drawer with other card games). You should definitely pick it up at your FLGS. Ethnos is also a favorite - but I can see how it might drag at larger player counts (I have only played it with two). A couple of times you mentioned a game being out of print. Something that has struck me as I have learned about the hobby is how quickly some games go out of print, which is one reason I am reluctant to part with anything because if I change my mind, I might not be able to track it down again. BTW, the roast beef story was excellent - I can completely sympathize as I am the one who plays food-and-drink cop in my house.

Inis is such a great game! I have no problems with kingmaking in the case of Inis. With careful planning and clever tactics, you can outsmart the other players I think, putting them in a tough situation in which their kingmaking attempts simply won't succeed. It's pretty rewarding :P
@gerard45593 жыл бұрын
My favourite play in Inis, which I found by accident, is to set someone else up to win next turn early in a turn and then after the rest of the players have knocked them down, using up their best cards to do so, activate your own win condition.

I really love Ethnos. It is easy to learn and teach, and the battle for control of the board really becomes tense, especially as the dragons start coming out. My experience is that with 4+ players the rounds become faster and faster as the game goes -- at times, we forget whose turn it is because we are all struggling with which band to play, should I keep waiting or act now with what I have while trying to watch the board and the cards on the table. To me, that tension and tactical play is very enjoyable.

Great video! Thanks! I would recommend playing Inis again with the expansion. I find it an fun game, and working out card and turn management strategies to assure a win, even with an early in the round pretender token draw, can be part of the fun. Also, a person does not have to take a token just because they have a win condition, but must to win. So managing that tension can be an addition to game play. Hope you enjoy it!!

Not sure I regret selling those, but sometimes I wish I still had them. Glass Road - loved it but sold because it wasn't making it to the table. Still miss it. I love Oh My Goods, I definitely recommend also picking up the Longsdale expansion for it, it makes the game even better. You switch from having the number of buildings built be the timer to having an event deck be the timer, there's a bunch of new buildings, and the events are a good edition to it. Oh man, I would never get rid of Star Realms, that's such a fantastic deckbuilder, I would definitely recommend adding events (just a fun randomizer to throw in), missions (gives alternate win conditions to players) and cosmic gambit (gives player asymetric starting bonuses) and potentially looking into the command decks for asymetric player powers. I can't say I have much regret in terms of getting rid of games, there are definitely good games that have left the collection, but looking through the list of 200+ games I have let go over the years, I still find my reasoning for letting them go to remain solid. Either I wasn't prioritising them (meaning there were too many other games I'd rather play) or I swapped them out for app version or a different game that did the job better.

I think there's a difference between king-making and bash-the-leader. King-making happens when there is more than one person in the lead and the other players choose to help one of those players to win the game. I think this can be very thematic and can make for good stories, especially in Inis. Bash-the-leader occurs when one person is in the lead and the rest of the table gangs up to take them down, and in my experience this can be very frustrating. But I admit that it's a fine line between the two and they're not mutually exclusive.
