Yu-Gi-Oh is known for its flashy combos and powerful anime boss monsters. However, the best bosses in the card game usually aren’t the big ticket names shouted in the anime, but instead are often the best cards of lesser known archetypes that are better utilized by more consistent decks. The Extra Deck boss monsters we’ll be covering today are the best of the best, combining fantastic effects with generic summoning requirements, allowing them to comfortably slot into decks prepared for competitive play.

I really like that Redoer's effects tie in to Time Thief's theme. The first effect is literally stealing/retrieving an object from your opponent. As for each part of the second effect: - Banishing himself alludes to Redoer escaping the scene when being chased (say, by an S-Force); - Drawing a card alludes to Fast Forwarding time to your "next turn"; - Finally, placing a card on top of the deck alludes to Rewinding time to before your opponent drew it.

Yeah, but, it does have to compete with multiple generic synchros that give negates. It's why synchros have the reputation they have, because in a synchro deck you can set up a full field of negates so that your opponent can't even do anything. Plus, a bunch of other synchro cards that have those negate effects also have 'Once per turn you can banish/destroy one card on the field', which is probably better than 'when this card is summoned you can banish a card on the field'. Not saying it's bad, just that it has a lot of competition for just being a generic synchro without even considering the other generic extra deck monsters, like fusion and link. It also doesn't help that some of those synchros that it competes with are also level 10.

Psychic made sense to add with all the shenanigans in the anime, its just that later in 5Ds due to drama, they had to be placed on a back burner. Cyberse is to promote the 6 era and dueling in cyber space and promote Link summoning. Though realistically, they're just psychic, spellcaster/warrior/dragons, thunder and machine type monsters fused together into one. Wyrm are just dragons. They didn't to make "too much dragons" for some reason, also duel terminal shenanigans. Also shown in how a lot of them are just "enhanced/alternate" dragons and how little support they get, and how overly convoluted and gimmicky many of their effects are.

Half of this list being generic is one of the main reasons why powercreep in this game is getting out of hand. Any new card released will be IMMEDIATELY put to the test to either contest these cards or turbo them out. Some possible easy fixes are modifications to their materials, keeping their splashability to a degree but requiring decks that don't play the archetype to commit more (but Konami would never do these bcs Konami): 1. Borreload Savage Dragon: 1 "Rokket" Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monster(s). 2. Accesscode Talker: 2+ Effect Monsters, including a Cyberse monster. 3. Time Thief Redoer: 2 Level 4 DARK Machine or Psychic monsters.

This is the bad thing about today's boss monsters. They're generic to the point where meta decks can use them, decreasing deck diversity. Back then, monsters like Cyber End Dragon were ACTUAL boss monsters because they were often used within a deck of their own or related archetype, or related to their types in general. Top of that, they're more rewarding to use when boss monsters are used in their "home" decks (like Savage Dragon to Rokkets).

I really liked this concept, and I like how you went into more detail with each of these choices, giving example interactions for each card rather than talking about them purely in the abstract, but I think you missed the mark on the actual list contents, primarily by putting other cards here in place of Underworld Goddess. Underworld Goddess (White Woman Jumpscare) should have made this list, honestly above Avramax, simply because it's a Kaiju in your ED that also has a permanent monster negate effect on summon, protection against the premiere forms of interaction, and if made with I:P Masquerena, can interrupt an opponent's plays and then also be undestroyable, forcing the use of either tribute removal, target non-destruction removal, or targeting effect negation, all of which are relatively rare except for the last, but in the modern metagame, targeting effect negation is mostly just InfImp or [your archetype here]'s archetype-specific targeting negate trap card if it even has one, and maybe that one Runick card that negates monster effects (although Runick is losing favor in every format over time), so in other words, it's something you can play around and anticipate since InfImp isn't coming out of the hand in response to White Woman Jumpscare since summoned specifically to help break established boards, meaning InfImp will have to be set first and thus telegraphed. It also has some admittedly matchup-specific negation against summons (any deck that doesn't summon from the GY doesn't care about White Woman Jumpscare all that much) which is a nice little perk. IMO it's nearly an auto-include in any deck that also wants to make I:P Masquerena, and along with Avramax forms a duo of perfect choices for using her as material-do you want a towers in Avramax, or do you want a board breaker in Underworld Goddess? Of course, the latter is better in more situations, and she's also easier to summon most of the time since she can be made with materials summoned from anywhere, not just the ED, hence why she should have been above him. Though, I think both of these cards are not as great of generic boss monsters as Apollousa is tbh, even though she can be baited and then beaten over, Apollousa's ability to negate anywhere from 2-4 monster effects (or even more if you have attack increasing effects in your deck!) over her time spent on the board is insane. Though once she's down to 1600 ATK she is kind of no longer a boss monster anymore, but still, an amazing card and way better than both the White Woman Jumpscare and Avram's umpteenth form. Also Time Thief Redoer is not suitable for this list IMO: while it is generic in the way it's made, it's very limited in which kind of decks can make good use of it. Even when I was playing Tear Ishizu I found that Redoer wasn't even my best choice for a Rank 4 most of the time, it was either Bagooska because I was losing and needed to stall to draw an out, or it was Abyss Dweller because I was setting up my turn 1 board. (Honestly, those two monsters are better overall than Redoer, but they're just shy in ATK power to be considered boss monsters, so I get why they wouldn't make this list.) If you really feel strongly that Redoer belongs on the list, then Underworld Goddess would have to edge out Borrelsword Dragon, which tbh also doesn't feel like it belongs on the list since there are so many fantastic generic ED monsters that do more than just threaten an OTK in the upcoming BP, but the argument you provided for its inclusion did make sense to me and its presence _does_ force a preemptive response whenever it shows up, whereas Redoer is kind of just whatever, he's not a real threat on board he's just a pesky fly who isn't a boss by himself, he's more like your real boss' sidekick. And if we're talking about value generated for as many decks as possible, Acesscode is better than Baronne simply because more decks can make links plus its effects being spell speed 4 make it so that if you don't have a way to negate it on an open game state, your ass is grass. Baronne is definitely great in any deck that can make a level 10 synchro and you're right that it's good both going 1st and 2nd, but it's not as generic as Accesscode simply because, unlike Accesscode, it's inaccessible to the majority of decks. Still, it's accessible to enough decks and amazing enough that I think it should have made #2, with Accesscode as #1. I'm just nitpicking with this one tbh. I only wrote all this up because I thought this video was good and interesting moreso than most of your other videos.

This is exactly how it should have been. Alternatively they could have made 'Horse of the Floral Knights' a Level 2 Tuner instead of just a regular Level 3 effect monster (the Noble Knight effect isn't a big deal since Sherry did _technically_ use a couple of them in the anime) and had that be the Tuner requirement, given that Baronne is literally Chevalier de Fleur mounted on one.

It's interesting that to a new yugioh player who plays master duel, you can generally tell if a card is good because it has a summon cut-in. Bonus points if it's arbitrarily UR. All these have summon cut-ins, don't know about rarity though.

Worth noting another benefit of Baronne over Savage is Savage straight up doesn't have a negate until its on summon effect resolves. Savage still loses to something like Torrential or Nib because it needs to remove a counter to negate and doesn't get them until afterwards.

I feel like UDF especially is too big of a pain. Being able to negate and permanently steal opponents monsters without targeting them is just annoying. This way even if you manage to prevent targeting of your monsters, it won't work against this guy. Additionally the protection effects of not being able to be destroyed by battle or card effects is just too much for such a generic card.

I honestly do not like powerful boss monsters that are generic and splash into every decks that they shouldn't have the spot for unless it's a standalone non-Archetype card like Zeus or Zealantis, I prefer them having the NEED to stay in their Archetype or at least monster type / attribute. Accesscode should have been locked to Code talker or Cyberse decks and Borrel to Rokket decks, something like that. It'd make more diversity to the game where the players have to choose what deck to play what boss monster they want, some decks are even mash all these generic bosses together and seems to have identity crisis.

I think it’s important to realise that drident is not the problem with zoos. For their time, drident providing on-demand removal(essentially) was an incredibly strong effect, and with consistency that zoos hold to this day. However, in todays meta-game(much more power-crept,) link monsters can provide the same things with generic archetype cards(freeing up tons of other slots for other techs/extra deck monsters). Drident is not banned in master duel for a reason, it’s not very good. However, that’s not to say that the *other* zoos should not stay banned. Cards like broadbull and ratpier are easily abusable in modern combo decks because they are not once per turn. Decks would be able to abuse these cards to spam a ton of bodies with 0 locks with only 1 card, with drident as a cherry on top or fail-safe, should you brick on the other 4 cards in your hand, trying to play past disruption. Pre-links, cards that could spam bodies were more common since less decks had a practical use for them. Todays meta game changes that entirely, which is also the reason spyrals instantly became one of the best archetypes ever printed.

I'm not sold of Time Thief Redoer being a great boss. It's a great utility monster I'll grant that. But unless you have trap monsters or are playing against a deck full of backrow, it hardly qualifies as a boss monster. Being able to save your cards from banish, get extra draws, or force your opponent to waste negates, is a good thing, but this doesn't make a boss monster. It can only stuff if it has a trap.

I wouldn’t say difficult because it devolve versions Utopic Future and Future Slash have a lesser, but similar summoning requirement with only 2, with Future Slash able to be summoned with any Utopia monster and Utopic Future as an alternative summoning condition. So I imagine people would add either those two cards alongside Draco Future.
@KaiserShield
@KaiserShield Жыл бұрын
@dantekirenryu980 this is a list of the best 'generic' boss monsters. Which means most decks(or at least ones People actually use semi commonly) can summon easily. And most of them do not have room for multiple xyz monsters just to summon for a OPT monster negater. Psychic End Punisher and Underworld goddess would have been been far better bosses over it and borrelsword.
@xCorvus7x
@xCorvus7x Жыл бұрын
Having room is just a choice you make when deckbuilding, though. That every deck can do it doesn't mean that it is worth it in every case. I guess you could argue that Underworld Goddess is more of a boss monster than Time Thief Redoer but when do you ever end on Goddess? Either you use her as a Kaiju to clear the field for an OTK or you summon her during your opponent's turn with I:P, which makes her as much a utility card as Redoer (who can be considered the boss monster of his archetype).
@KaiserShield
@KaiserShield Жыл бұрын
@xCorvus7x If you're building a optimized and meta deck though choice isnt really a option though. And the underworld goddess usage rate in MD speaks for its usefulness by itself. Most decks that can summon it, have it. And even if she isn't consistently useful every game comes in handy enough, often enough that she warrants a spot in them. As foe Rodoer I don't think it's a boss monster really. It's useful but not that splashable and more annoying then anything.
@xCorvus7x
@xCorvus7x Жыл бұрын
@@KaiserShield Is it not the case that most decks aren't meta anyway? Meta is only the top fraction of all decks. Five ED slots is pushing it but not _much_ more than running Zoodiacs for Drident or Zeus. Goddess's playrate on MD is skewed by the variety of the format as well as the format being best-of-one. Using a Quick-Effect Kaiju as interruption is good but if there was no need to prepare for the occasional Crooked Cook, Arrival Cyberse, or whatever else is best answered with a Kaiju, she'd certainly be played less. That kind of goes for the whole Time Thief archetype.

Unchained abomination for an honourable mention. 2+ monsters, including a link monster, being more generic in modern game states than Avramax while still accessing an Avramax style summon combo. Its three trigger effects can prevent most of the rest of this list from even being summoned by removing their materials from the board almost as quickly as they could be deployed. First-Third summoning of Abomination via an I:p masquerena strategy can afford it's owner complete control of the opponent's play state by picking apart their board on it's set up or by their own interactions with any number of cards or ending their turn. At this point in a duel it also has very few common weaknesses unlike some other members of this list, for example infinite impermanence would have to be played from hand to be a valid counter other than that dark ruler no more or effect veiler. Tokens can also be used as link material for this monster, so this mighty link-4 can be made using a single copy of scapegoat at an opportune moment, then turning two tokens into I:p masquerena something very few members of the list can achieve.
@AloneTheorist
@AloneTheorist 3 ай бұрын
Effects of Unchained Abomination: 1. If a card a card on the field is destroyed by card effect, except by unchained abomination: you can target one card on the field and destroy it. 2. If another monster is destroyed by battle; you can target one card on the field and destroy it. 3. During THE end phase; you can target one card on the field and destroy it. These three effects if used strategically and on both player's turns can cause Unchained Abomination's to have complete control of the flow of the duel despite the targeting requirements of it's effects. Meaning early enough summoning of this card can effectively let you control the interactions your opponent can make. Also any spell or trap removal can trigger the first effect making Abomination an add on or extender to cards such as Harpie's feather duster, mystical space typhoon and dust tornado among a long list of others.
