#1 for me is and has always been Dying Fetus - Destroy the Opposition. Reason is simple. So many death metal bands have albums that have 1 or 2 stand out tracks and the rest of the album is filler noise. DtO is the death metal Reign in Blood. Every song could be called "the best song on the album" with more memorable riff changes in one random song than most dm bands have in several albums. The weakest song on DtO is better than mos dm bands have in their catalog. No it wasnt the first, no it wasnt the fastest, most evil etc....what it is is the album with the best crafted songs in dm history.

Nice list. Opeth definitely got me into death metal. Morbus chron was cool to see on here too. Im not sure which new bands you’re hinting at being not true or cheap or something (and I probably listen to a lot of them) but I will say, I have a co worker whose opinion on death metal I hold in the same regard as the friend of yours that you mentioned and I enjoy how hes pretty open to all the new “trendy” bands. He grew up with the possessed vocalist (they actually recently stopped mid set at their show in Austin when they saw him in the crowd and shouted him out) and is about as “true” as I can imagine someone who listens to the genre. His open mind and support of the momentum the genre has seen is awesome. Figured it was worth sharing that.

Number 1 album, of all time, imo, is Carcass, Necroticism - Descanting the Insalubrious (1991) Its just epic, a masterpiece

First time seeing your channel and I gotta say, I love your list. Spiritual Healing is also my favorite Death album. Spheres is a trip of an album, that most people just don’t understand. The only inclusion that I would’ve added is Cynic’s “Focus.” Otherwise our lists are pretty similar. Good shit bro, I subbed.

Great episode as always, nice to see Amorphis getting some love. I see you stick to one album per band, which is good in that it allows you to cover more. My list shows my fandom of Death (the first band of that type I got into in the 80s), Opeth and Gojira. I picked Ghost Reveries solely based on emotional connection -- I saw them live for the first time that tour.
