For me they're not groove metal. They only use groove metal or thrash metal sound for guitar riffs. His growl technique is more like a metalcore screamer, Less melody and more breakdowns Like melodic metalcore that uses a melodic death metal sound

Look for people who want to start a metal band (even if you dont really like the style they want to make, you can always learn alot from them) from 16 to 25ish, if someone is 26 thats allright to. My second ever band was with a guy who was 31 while i was 18, the drummer who was my friend was 16 at that time, the 31 year old guy teached him so darn much! (how to play death metal blastbeats way more thighter and faster for example) Good luck and have fun!

I wouldn't call Five Finger Death Punch, Devildriver, Lamb Of God, Chimaira or Exhorder Groove Metal. Groove Metal is Pantera, Soulfly, Sepultura (Roots and Chaos AD), Prong, Helmet, Biohazard, Skinlab, White Zombie, Fear Factory, Ministry, Nailbomb and Lofofora. Machine Head have some Groove Metal songs but they also have some Thrash Metal songs.

Hell Joe Duplantier even played for Cavalera Conspiracy. I agree that they are prog, but they have many groove influences.

Slipknot are something else and imo belong with bands like Rammstein, Coal Chamber, Static-X, Dope, Kittie, Otep, Mushroomhead, Motograter, System Of A Down and Mudvayne, but I wouldn't call any of those bands Nu-Metal or Groove Metal. Prong and Soulfly are definitely Groove Metal, bands like Biohazard, White Zombie, Fear Factory, Ministry, Nailbomb, Skinlab and Lofofora I would also definitely call them Groove Metal. Machine Head has Groove Metal songs, but they also have Thrash Metal songs as well.

The thing with groove metal is that it isn't a very well defined genre, and there are very few very good bands, in thrash for example you have megadeth, Metallica, anthrax, slayer, exodus, testament, destruction, sodom, kreator and many more
