And their whole relationship. Representing a bi character as loyal to his partner and not being afraid to tell the audience he likes men and women. Unlike some shows that portray it as just experimenting or say the character is sometimes a lesbian sometime straight *cough* orange is the new black *cough* and not acknowledging people can be bi. As well as showing Alec figuring out his sexuality. And showing the two of them as main character and their relationship being something shown in the show often. Showing the two of them working through bumps in the road together. It is a good example of a healthy relationship. And a loving committed relationship between a bi and gay character.

I like your list. But there are some other groundbreaking LGBTQ moments on television that should be included. “Queer as Folk,” for instance, was groundbreaking in the 90s when it was the first series to focus on mostly LGBTQ characters portrayed in romantic/sexual situations. And back in the 80s, “Dynasty” was probably the first dramatic series to have a regular gay character - Stephen Carrington. His father even accidentally killed his first lover in a homophobic rage.

How is their relationship groundbreaking? They are cute, don't get me wrong, but they didn't "push any boundary" in terms of television history; I also think that the choice of portray them in the tv series (much more than in the books) was a stunt because the production knew about the great fanbase they had. I'd say that, in comparison, I would have added some tv series more geared to a male target. (I don't know how to explain it because I'm not a native) I think that lgbt portrayal is much more prevalent in tv shows which have a female audience target (see Will and Grace, Glee, Shadowhunter itself), while shows geared towards a male audience (like Sons of Anarchy) don't have as much representation (I don't know why, but I feel like heterosexual men tend to be more homophobic than the female counterpart strangely). In this regard, I would have added to the list tv series like Spartacus (which has a gay storyline in each season) or Black sails (SPOILER: flint, the main character, is bisexual).

I like Glee like everyone else, but to act like it should be celebrated for having multiple gay/lesbian/bi/trans characters is ignoring the numerous shows that came before 2009 that featured the same archetypes. Hell, All in the Family featured a drag queen as a recurring character until the character's offscreen death to being bashed by a lead pipe by a mugger in a Christmas episode, which caused one of the main characters to question the validity of God. So really adding Glee just because they have multiple characters that are LGBTQ is kinda ignoring all of the shows Primetime and Daytime who preceded them
@MrDougmartin4 жыл бұрын
There was a movie called That Certain Summer with Martin Sheen and Hal Holbrook which was way before any of these so called ground breakers. I agree that Queer as Folk should definitely be on this and I also feel that The L Word should be more than just an honourable mention. And personally, as a bisexual, Daryl from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is the best bi representation I've seen on TV. He's so happy and proud of his sexuality, 'I'm a both-sexual!'. And 'Getting By' is a TUNE!

Why do I find most of the LGBT+ stuff on Ms. Mojo and not WatchMojo channel?

I've read a lot of the comments, and agree with some but disagree with others....as with the "top 10" MsMojo came up with. To me there's a difference between "groundbreaking", important and just nice to see on TV. To me "groundbreaking" signifies opening the doors and being first, no matter how controversial for the time. I'm 52. Many of the comments seem to be from younger people. What was represented on TV when I was a child/teenager was extremely different from what's represented on TV in the last 30 or so years. I'm glad the list included the "All in the Family" episode and Jody Dallas on "Soap". Those were "shocking" at the time and truly groundbreaking. Some other entries on the list, to me, were like "yeah...whatever...seen it, no big whoop". Just my 2 cents.

Klaine!!! Their relationship is the best on Glee, even when I hate some moments bc they were unrealistic but big part of their story is pretty realistic. Their story gave so much hope and courage to a lot of young people to be just the way they are, that is why is the biggest and most important couple on Glee.

Why is it that LGBT lists are put on MsMojo? Are they not mainstream enough for WatchMojo? Are only females interested in LGBT characters/movies/storylines?

Ok, I feel tremendously offended for the fact that you didn't include MALEC :'(

Where is Jack from Dawson's creek? Thought he would at least get an honorable mention

I really wish “Queer as Folk” was on here, it has multiple gay characters with a few a straight background characters, it talks about homophobia, coming out, AIDS and HIV, as well as themes of same sex marriage and equality. Not only that but also has well rounded characters who deal with everyday issues and two amazing moms who love their gay sons.

I would also add The New Normal either to the list or honorable mentions.

Lance Loud on the PBS reality series "An American Family" from 1973. The first openly gay man to "come out" on what's considered the first reality series on TV.
