Holy... I never actually noticed that. That's friggin hilarious actually. I love the little deleted scene for that moment that explains the reason why Snape took away points from Griffindor. In the movie, it looks like he takes points away from Griffindor because Harry couldn't answer his questions. But in the scene when Snape said "Clearly fame isn't everything is it, Mr. Potter?", Harry replied with "Clearly Hermione knows the answer, seems a shame not to ask her." which resulted in Snape taking points from Griffindor because Harry got smart with him.
@geraldgrenier81323 жыл бұрын
The reason Neville didn't get into trouble for not having his robes at breakfast, is even at boarding schoolmyour only required to wear your uniform during the school day, and breakfast is before then. At my boarding school it was pretty common to wear somthing diffrent as an outer layer to breakfast, Especial amount the more clumsy-prone to avoid getting into trouble for wear a dirty uniform when the school day did begin
@54raynor3 жыл бұрын
I'd say that #8 gives the exact opposite message: Harry's communication with the snake and his subsequent escape (without actually hurting anyone) tells us that not all slytherins are bad.
@bloodwolfgaming92693 жыл бұрын
Something that is confirmed later on in the series when it was revealed that Snape actually had a strong feelings towards Harry's mother and ended up being a secret double agent for Dumbledor in an attempt to stop Voldemort. So in the end, he wasn't actually all that bad. Heck, if you look closely when he "battled" McGonagall, he never actually fired a spell at her and when she fired her spells at him, he actually deflected them so they ended up taking out the two Death Eaters that were standing at the ready behind him.

Can we talk about how clever Snape’s message is in #2? At the time of this movie, the books had not been finished and no one but Rowling knew about Snape’s feelings for Lily until she told Rickman while filming, allowing him to fully understand his characters motives. So I am assuming Rowling wrote the line and only Rickman knew it’s hidden meaning while everyone else on set (and the audience) had no idea. I continue to be absolute blown away at the planning/foreshadowing Rowling was able to achieve for this series with things such as this.

Despite being all in Gryffindor, Harry, Ron and Hermione display traits of other Houses too. We already know Harry would have done well in Slytherin, owing to having some of Voldermort’s soul inside him. Ron is loyal, even when he and Harry fall out, he always comes back to Harry’s side in the end, so he’d be great in Hufflepuff. And Hermione is highly logical, so she’d fit into Ravenclaw. I’m pretty sure this is something else JK Rowling did on purpose.
@BastiatC Жыл бұрын
I really don't think Ron is a Hufflepuff, Hufflepuffs are supposed to be dedicated, patient, loyal and hard-working. He isn't very loyal. He's the only one of the Trio to walk out on the others, both on GoF and DH, and he's not particularly dedicated, patient or hard working either. In fact he's rather impulsive. Ron is fully a Gryffindor, particularly showing courage and nerve. While he may have left his friends at times they needed him, it was because of jealously, never fear, even though he was quite rightly afraid.
@davidpumpkinsjr.51083 жыл бұрын
I always liked how after Ron is KOed in the chess game, Hermione starts to move to check on him, but Harry says "Don't move! Remember, we're still playing." It not only shows Hermione's compassion for Ron but also how Harry can keep focused on the goal at hand.
@williamthompson11093 жыл бұрын
Well of the three, he's already experienced horrifying situations, so he did have a little experience already. That or he's just a natural in keeping his head in dangerous situations
@bloodwolfgaming92693 жыл бұрын
They actually changed the scene up slightly in the book. Instead of the queen spearing the horse Ron was riding, she clubbed him over the head and completely knocked him out, discarding him on the side of the board. And Hermione responded by screaming for Ron but "didn't move from her spot". The bit where Harry had to tell her not to move because they were still technically in play was a detail added in the movie.

Also notice that Dudley and Vernon both hit the glass twice to make us know that there's a big glass there. If it was clearly visible, the effect of Dudley discovering there's a glass after he fell would have not been too strong. This way, the directors indirectly made us understand that there's almost an invisible glass there. And the chapter is called "the Vanishing Glass" too. It's a small detail, but I love how the directors bothered to inform in such hidden manner. And this helps us to almost feel like there's no glass between Harry and the snake. It's kinda a way to show how close is Harry to snakes. Even when the snake came down, he was a bit afraid, but he had a nice little chat too. And ofc this is a (spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler alert) reference to the horcrux things in the future. I love that storytelling was build with small details instead of shoving words into our faces. Another detail I love to notice is when the Dursley family is eating, there's always 3 plates and 3 cups. Poor Harry didn't even get a cup of juice.

@vermontvampyre3 жыл бұрын
@You're Gonna Hate This Sorcerer is another word for "Wizard". So basically its a stone that was made by/belongs to a male Wizard. Duh. Consider, if you will, the age group these books are made for. In America you don't even learn about anything that could be related to Alchemy (which is where the term "Philosopher's Stone comes from) until at LEAST Middle school but most likely highschool when we actually start learning about world history and not just American history. The books are targeted for children in the grades of 3-5...way before we learn anything about alchemy or philosophy. However British children probably focus on their OWN history at that point in their schooling. Since they have a longer history and the practice of Alchemy was a thing in Britain in the 8th century they are introduced to the terms at an earlier age. So Americans aren't STUPID. We just have different early history classes to the rest of the world and thus learn about things at different ages to the rest of the world. While the Brits are focused on War of Roses, Black Death, etc us Americans are learning about Natives, Pilgrims, Slavery, Revolution, etc Very much different there you see ;P

Philosophers Stone - Why arent you using the original title?

It's called Sorcerer's Stone in the US...which I am pretty sure WatchMojo is based out of the US (thought I could be wrong there)

how is it that Voldermort trusts Snape, when in the First Movie Voldermort (and Proferssor Quirell) were aware that Snape was working against him

I wonder if they are going to do this for the entire series! And I got one Tom Riddle enchanted himself into already made horcruxes including the horcruxes of the main heads of the houses of Hogwarts except for one which was Gryffindor which was hidden inside the sorting hat!
@hansrojas94873 жыл бұрын
Why he didn't horcruxified the hat? The hat also belonged to Gryffindor.

Am I the only one who doesn't remember Hagrid and Harry walking around London? I thought they went to the Leaky Cauldron while in Diagon Alley?

Actually I noticed Wood was looking at nowhere the first time I saw the movie and considered the idea that they were trying to show Wood losing track of the snitch. But actually I don't think that's a very good idea. See it's very natural for us to lose track of something that is as small and flies as fast as a mosquito, but the snitch is much bigger and stand out with its golden appearance, and it didn't move that much in the shot. This does not make Harry born to be a seeker, it just makes Wood plain stupid. Would you lose track if a golf ball was flying around you about 1 or 2 feet away?

The draft of living death kills not a sleeping draft the ingredients aren't the same as what Snape asked. We can see the real ingredients in the year Slughorn took over the post of poition master and the first assignment of advanced poitions was to make a successful draft of living death where Slughorn says a drop would kill us all.

Americans are weird changing it from the philosopher's stone to the sorcerer's stone. Hate it when they change titles for movies.

Fun fact- they didn't even need to stop quirrel from getting the stone as Dumbledore says later on in the movie "Only a person who wanted to FIND the stone not USE it would be able to get it" So if Harry Ron and Hermione had stayed in bed that night none of them would have to put themselves in danger and Voldemort would never have gotten the stone anyway
