Many good points! About the stitching, I turn the camera 45-75 degrees when filming the shoreline (beach). It eliminates the stitching when looking down the beach, which can be distracting. Basically, I seldom point the camera directly at my point of focus (point of interest). I also purchased a taller monopod (with folding feet) to keep the camera a close to eye level. I use a couple wrist or ankle weights which are soft (1-2 pounds) and filled with sand. I use Klingon stealth-cloaking to hide!

Great tips. Thanks for posting this, great help.... I have had my Samsung 360 for 3 days now. The possibilities seem Incredible.... I am just starting to have fun with this.... Mounted it on a gorilla grip tripod splayed on the dash of the car.... Very Funny capturing the Wifes Driving and comments. But I totally agree let the phone stitch.... My S7 Edge got soo hot during file transfer, I didn't realise it was stitching the file as it received it... Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge......

Good tips. I have found that the stitched file Action Director creates is half the bitrate of the one produced on the phone (S7): 32 Mbps H264 (not H265), and the audio is also at a lower bitrate, 128 kbps at 48Hz. The stitched video the phone produces is H264 61 Mbps and the audio is 192 kbps at 48Hz. So, Action Director will almost always produce a lower quality video. And there are no options that I could find to change how it stitches (it is automatic).
@overexpose3608 жыл бұрын
thanks for confirming that for me.... i know i can see the difference but didn't go to that next step to confirm it (I really should have)... just checked out your videos.... how are you finding the Kodak360 compared to the Gear 360?
@markr0418 жыл бұрын
The Samsung is more fun and easier to use, but the 4K video from the dual Kodak 360 4K is clearly better (in resolution, color and relative lack of stitching artifacts (one has more control of those too)). So, mainly the Samsung for 360 stills (highest resolution I have seen from a consumer camera for this) and 360 video from the Kodaks.
@markr0418 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can upload the original, full resolution video sitting on the S7 to KZbin using the KZbin app on the phone. The stitched videos already have the appropriate metadata so that KZbin will know they are 360. You can also trim the videos losslessly on the S7 before uploading (it will make a new video, quickly). I also upload directly from the S7 the 360 photos directly to Google Street View. No PC needed for any of this.

Downloading a video (even a very short one) from the Gear 360 with my LG smartphone halts at 99 % until the battery is dead. Maybe there's an issue with the Bin4ry app? Downloading photos works smoothly.
@overexpose3606 жыл бұрын
I think the success of the Bin4ry app is phone dependent... I've also had phones that will download images but not videos... since videos is more resource intensive to download and convert, I think the hardware may be causing it to fail (and I guess that why Samsung themselves have limited on which phone they support at 4k etc)...

It never used to be like so I may have inadvertently changed a setting. But I do not find any settings for exposure
@overexpose3607 жыл бұрын
+chuck luke unfortunately that's missing in a lot of the 360 cameras.. Do manual controls.... Are you using the camera via the phone or on camera controls... You can set the exposure compensation on the phone but not on camera so that might be causing your over exposure... The other thing I can think of is that you might have one side of the camera facing an extreme bright light source whereas the other side is dark... Try rotating the camera and see if you get a different exposure result...

About the Gear 360 Manager: I could install perfectly in my Alcatel Pixi 4, but the stitching part never works properly. The process goes until 50%...60%...and nothing happens. And after 5 or 6 attempts, the app closes. So the best way Ive found was to connect my camera to Google Street View app via Bluetooth and let Google SV stitching the image and save the stitched images in another folder. It works perfectly. Plus: Google SV inserts the right coordinates in case you wanna post the pictures in Google Maps.
@overexpose3608 жыл бұрын
I had the same thing on on Sony Z3 as well... it think it may have something to do with memory limits or something..... I did try Google SV early on and was going include that in the video but I haven't tried it again since the very beginning where I had stitching issues.... I think I'll try it all again and will post another video regarding Google SV as it provide a great option for every one else who does not have a compatible phone (including iPhones).....

I'm really enjoying making 360 videos but the stitching time is forever! Is the S7 faster? Have you compared? On the computer (Core i7 6500, 16GB RAM) it maxes out the CPU from the get-go and uses about half the available RAM and still needs hours just to stitch a 5 minute video. With this, the clunky 360 editing software and upload times 360 video is much more time consuming than regular video
@overexpose3608 жыл бұрын
i have actually done a comparison between computer and the S7... it actually does process a fair bit faster on the phone (but it still takes quite a long time).... also, for some reason the bitrate is much lower when stitched using Action Director as compare to the phone app..... and there are a few features that are available in app and not on AD..... looking forward to seeing some of your output

you can either change it on the camera itself in settings/video size or on your phone via the Gear 360 Manager app, it should be available for you to select once you choose the video mode and it's the first option next to the settings icon. However if you are not using the S7 it may not let you to change it to 4k on the app as the S6 is locked to 2k only.... but you should still be able to change it on the camera itself...

Ive started using mine for vids, i use my PC exclusively so im missing out on the VR aspect (not for long) . Alot of what you say is good stuff especially the front/back issue. i find that outdoors you need to be aware of the suns location as you get an obvious difference in contrast from direct and indirect light images that are then stitched. i tried to edit annotations into still images, it seems they lose the metadata if i do in a 3rd part programme. This is np in video as i add the metadata myself but this doesnt work for stills, any advice? heres a link to my first go. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpbFnIejj5ZspMk

that's a good tip re being aware of the sun location... in fact that was one i was going to talk about and when i recorded the video i completely forgotten about it... guess it'll make the next video :) btw - great video.... how much harder is it to mount the camera on the front of the bike rather than the back? i think being able to see the front action would make the video a more exciting/interesting viewing (and now i wish i've got a motorbike!! :)

I had that during last night's lightning storm in Adelaide . I also got some moisture in the top screen during rain not the 1st time when videoing in the rain . kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpC3mKRqgNaHaLc

This is the third video about using this camera that fails to mention how to connect it to a PC and get the video out of the camera. Neither the action director program or the windows file system can find the camera when it is plugged into the USB port. 20 minutes of fluff does not help if you fail to explain step one.

My question refers to tip 3. If you have some footage that was shot backwards, is there a way in Premiere pro to turn the footage around without having to turn around to see straight?
