I thoroughly enjoyed this one, it was very accurate. Regarding retirement: I grew up in a Mafia-rich community. Plenty of "gone legit" low- to medium-level guys held straight jobs or were officially retired. As a kid I once dined with James "Turk" Torello; he was a nice guy (to me, anyway). For 30 years I've lived in a city that is rife with Mexican and Mexican-derived gangs. I've had neighbors who grew up in the gangs then went straight. People do what they need to do to get by.

And all they got from Paulie was protection from other guys looking to rip them off. And that's what it's all about. That's what the FBI could never understand. I'm in favour of order and civilised conduct and I try to be a little pro-police but in the end, I just can't, I live in a pretty rural area and rarely see a policeman at all, so whenever they're around, they always bring trouble, can't speak for the big cities but around here, it's pretty much never about fighting crime and almost always about taking money from regular folk.
@dirkz.duggitz1567 Жыл бұрын
Police training from the start is hard wired not to trust civilians. They're taught to assume everyone, everywhere, is a suspect everytime. We're a long way off from protect and serve. Ppl have been taught that calling them police inevitably just complains the problems you already have. Then when you have a run in with an officer, they don't do themselves any favors to say the public from this view.

A few nights later they had a shootout with Dallas cops. But I wasn’t living here for that.
