"Chasing the boogeyman" was a great read for me also;, "Book of Accidents" by Wending was my kind of story. Love those big epic horror books. Currently reading a non fiction book : "Paperbacks from hell" by Grady Hendrix. Very fun book with a lot of facts on the history of the horror books in the 70s and 80s. A great time machine for horror fans.

I can’t believe I haven’t heard of Weep, woman weep! It sounds amazing!! And False Witness was my surprise of the year. I loved it so much, her character work was so amazing. It was the fastest I have ever read a long book - I was in tears by the end. Like you, I’m now including her on my radar.

Was anticipating this top 10!! 👻 Added Come With Me, Red X, and After the Rain to my list. I saw that Red X only has 80 reviews on Goodreads. That is wild! I feel like I always get great recommendations for horror I would never find or hear about anywhere else so thank you!! The audiobook for Come With Me and the ebook for After the Rain are on hoopla if anyone if looking there!

I totally get struggling with the order of the top three. In fact, your whole list has wonderful authors/ books! I want to read Henry's book, and my fave of 2021 was This Thing Between Us by Moreno (domestic thriller and AI horror, but don't read any reviews so as not to spoil your reading if you do decide to pick it up). I read Chasing the Boogeyman and Goddess of Filth and enjoyed them both. Goddess definitely a too fave. Queen of Teeth was my fave horror for last year.

I really enjoyed Nothing But Blackened Teeth! I also have the Book of Accidents sitting on my shelf waiting to be read 🤐 My favorite 2021 published book was probably ‘What Big Teeth’ I was pleasantly surprised by this one!

Karin Slaughter has written some really good short stories too. Martin Misunderstood and Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes. I listened to them on audio. The 2nd one I really enjoyed.

I loved Malfi's Come With Me! It was the second book I read by him, the first being Bone White. I've since went on a binge buying up more of his books on my Kindle. I'm curious about what book it reminded you of 🤔 but if it's a potential spoiler, then don't say it, lol -- this book is best going in completely blind. Looking forward to Book of Accidents, just got for Christmas.

I just finished Book of Accidents haven't started my review on it yet at least four stars I really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend Wanderers. That was my first book by him.... tad more towards science fiction. But I think you'd enjoy it.

Since you review horror books every year, do you find that some years are weaker then others overall in terms of how good the books were? Before getting into horror books id always keep up with the latest horror movies and keep track at the end of the year which ones i loved most. I found that some years had so many great horror movies, and then the next year comparatively felt disappointing while still having several great horror movies. Is this the case for you when reviewing horror books that you notice deciding your end of the year list? And if so would you consider 2021 a comparatively stronger or weaker than average year for horror lit?

I'd say it was a stronger year. Horror has recently become a more popular genre which means that more is getting published which means more opportunities to find new favourites

Shades of Prime Directive, Vulcanesque suppression of emotion, Warrior Princess on a quest of duty, cosmic horror - really, somthimg for everyone. Gotta read moe Tchaikovsky. Rosemary’s Baby and Between Two Fires and even Servants of Twilight were amazing, but haven’t been able to find the perfect storm of good writing, real fear, and complex characters like these in ages.

I read "Acts of Desperation" by Megan Nolan a couple months ago. It's a literary novel about a toxic relationship. The book gets very sexually disturbing at the end. I haven't stopped thinking about it since I finished it. I'll probably re-read it soon.

Need Help. I read a sci-fi book about a way station with llama-like mother and 'son' who run an inn. there was sloth-like alien in a mechanical suit and several other folks who get stranded on the surface when satellites start crashing into each other and crashing onto the surface. Please tell the Title or Author, I can't remember. ps the name of author might have been Clegg.
