Very impressive upgrades Arthur! Thank you for sharing! I have done the turbo conversion but with no waste gate control, additional oil cooler and cog belt drive, and fire strikers. I have also upgraded to a tail rotor drive shaft and an electric clutch.

Hi. Can you buy all those parts (inc the TR shaft drive) as kits, or do you need to have both a fantastic engineering shop and the experience to make parts yourself? I'm an UK ex-R22/R44 pilot who fancies a Rotorway as a retirement project. Used 162s are very cheap in the UK, but I don't fancy one without upgrading to near-Talon specs. Can it sensibly be done? A new Talon kit would be nice, but is not economic when compared with a used R22 or similar, especially considering residual values. Cheers, Mark.

Thanks for watching. If you want to build a helicopter, than there is only one way to go and that is Rotorway. If you want to learn to fly, that depends in what country you live. Not every country offers training on Rotorway but you always can learn to fly on a Robinson R22 as that is the cheapest option after Rotorway

Nice Vid, well done! BTW, your alu Pedals will not influence the Compass, but the Westach needle guages most certainly will !! - They have fixed magnets that play hell with those Compasses, I have had personal experience of that, even with them placed further away!

Sorry you misunderstood, 2 hours with the standard tank and an additional 1 hour with the long range tank a total of 3 hours in the air. Yes the Rotorway helicopter can use normal unleaded fuel aswell as aviation fuel (AFGAS)

Great Arthur, you have made some very important and useful additions to your helicopter. Its a shame, Rotorway International have not included them in their standard helicopter or indeed used you Arthur with your qualifications and experience to improve their helicopters.

Thanks for your comment. Many of my improvements are for safety but also for comfort. RW mostly improves there helicopter after people in the field have made some useful improvements, like me with the turbo.

The Kiss turbine RW is a nice project but it never took off because of the enormous fuel consumption for private use. RW factory tried there own turbine version with a Rollsroice turbine, also to expensive, could not sell anyone

cool video, but i have one question. why are you rolling down the throttle so quicly when you land? to me it seemes beneficial to have full rpm until you are certain the helicopter sits firmly on the ground ( mostly "bush" landings, i get it when you are on grass or pavement :) )

Yes you can as any other aircraft. You need to file a flight plan with exact details where you take off and land, aswell take off and landing time. Altitude and flight route must be specified. You have to go through a passport control on a International airport for take off and landing.

What is the use of the hover fan improvement if I may ask?

Thanks for watching. In hover there is no airflow trough the intercooler to cool the hot compressed air from the turbo, there for I use a fan to to blow through the intercooler to cool the hot air. In flight the fan is switched of and the airflow from the forward flight is doing the job.

Sorry not quite right, not to prevent the turbo from overheating but to prevent the engine to have detonation or pre ignition due to hot air intake. Also cooler air carrys more oxygen to the engine and that means more power.

@@karanmarwaha6605 The Robinson R22 and R 44 are not turbo charged. There engine is air cooled , they need that big fan to cool down the engine. The Rotorway helicopter is water cooled like a car, but also needs a fan to cool down the water. That has nothing to do with cooling the air intake for the engine after the turbocharger

Hi Keith, yes you need a PPL H to bee able to fly this helicopter as well as every other one. That distance is about 400 km that means you have to refuel ones to be able to fly to J'burg. The RW helicopter has an endurance of max 2hr. at. 140km/hr. You can refuel at any petrol station half way with normal unleaded fuel.

Hi Jack The RororWay helicopter has about the same maintenance per hour flight like any other helicopter. 1hour flight, 1hour maintenance. Most other manufacturers don't tell you the truth. The difference is on a RW you can do the maintenance yourself but on all certified you dont have to do anything except pay a lots of money

Hi Arthur, I ordered the first and second phase of the RW 162f in 2003. Then I got sick and didn't even get the phase 2 box open. Phase one had to be unboxed so I could store the parts in a safe place. No work has been done to any parts. Do you think someone my have an interested in purchasing the parts? Hi Arthur. Greetings from the UK. I'm an ex-R22/44 driver currently researching Rotorway. They look too good (and cheap!) to be true ... and you took that thing to 16,000ft ASL, and took your hands off the controls and it still flew straight and level, and didn't enter an unrecoverable attitude and crash even once :-) Is this normal Rotorway behaviour, or is your machine especially well-balanced or something? (Bear in mind I am used to R22s). Keep safe, Mark. ps. And another question: I would be very uncomfortable not having an Artificial Horizon. Is there space for one anywhere?

Hi Mark, thanks for watching My RW is not standard but extremely well balanced and as you know turbo charged. There is space for an artificial horizon if one makes a different instrument layout. Certain instruments with less priority can be fitted in the space above your foot.

Hi Zain There is no 4 seat helicopter as kit available. One a 4 seat used certified helicopter the Robinson R44 is the best option but it will set you back at least $ 350 000

@@zainabbas1467 l don't know from where you heard this untrue story regarding changing the engine after 250hr. All aircrafts had a maintenance schedule like a car. Aircraft maintenance is more involved than cars maintenance, because you cant just pull over and stop. On aircrafts you do everything earlier so nothing should break during a flight. Each aircraft has a different maintenance schedule. On Rotorway engine you have to complete overhaul the engine after 1000hr. but deffinately not throw the engine away. After that overhaul the engine is considered new again and you are ready to go an other 1000hr. To keep the engine running you have to do several services every 100hr. and preferably change oil and clean filters every 50hr. As a private pilot even if you fly a lot like me It can take between 10 and 20 years to perform a complete overhaul. I hope that answers your questions

Thanks for watching. This is correct, the belt drive is reliable maintenance free, light and easy to change. Shaft driven tail rotor is heavy, expensive and has 2 gear boxes who are maintenance intensive and not without concerns.
