Others mention Bud Powell and McCoy Tyner, but I would add Earl Hines, Fats Waller, Nat Cole, Teddy Wilson, Dave Brubeck, and a few others too. Generations differ in style, but the feeling & technique shine through. So many more deserve mention! Maybe a top 50 could get most of them in.

When people understand that music is not about speed and technique, it´s not a horse race, they will value some other pianists like Bill Evans, Clare Fischer, Michel Petruccianni and Makoto Ozone. When I was a teenager I valued too much speed. Oscar Peterson, Liszt and many other were my idols. Not that they aren´t good, this is not the case, but beginners tend to appreciate only speed, technique and showmanship. When you´re growing old, you can really appreciate music the way it should. There´s a saying: "When the musician is beginning to be greater than the music he produces, there is a BIG problem".

Beautiful, beautiful! I love all of this. Although... & I think we can all agree... The drummer in that first bit is feeling like "wtf am I doing w my life?"

Hard to pick a top ten. All these musicians are awesome in their own right. Have to mention some of my favorites among those that are featured here. Joe Sample, Lyle Mays, Michael Petrucciani and last but not least the phenomenal Eliane Elias.

@Henry Wimberly Yes, especially his early works, The Rainbow Seeker and Carmel albums were uniquely and brilliantly inspired. Two masterpieces!

Nice list, but Errol Garner had to be there. Monty Alexander would have been a good choice too.

il y a plein de bons choix , parce qu'il y a beaucoup de très bons pianistes !!! Le piano est un des instruments les plus étudiés . C'est drôle , parce que c'est un des plus encombrants à caser chez soi !!!
