Dad grew up on lake Erie and also spent many decades in his retirement on lake Michigan at a little Port named Frankfort. He sold the house and boat about 8 years ago. I really miss my time spent with dad boating, fishing and working on the home and property for many summers. The great lakes and its people are just wonderful like yourselves. What a nice comment! Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us your story. Those are wonderful memories for you. We did stay in Frankfort at the municipal marina. It was a good place for Ed's brother and best friend to come for a visit. On the way back we anchored out in the lake and enjoyed a concert on shore from our boat. All the little towns have something to offer. That's why we are coming back this summer!

Great job hitting the highs! Makes me want to do one for the Wisconsin side! I always recommend hitting Door County on the way south. It is only 60 is miles across from sturgeon bay to Frankfort. Those loopers who have a quicker cruise like yourselves won/t want to miss that side!

We are New Buffalo boaters. Nice review of our harbor. Was hoping you might say something about our 3 favorites: Arcadia (very small and quiet with a very well run municipal), Pentwater, (much like a mini-Saugatuck) and Northport with great restaurants, Barb's Bakery and Tom's supermarket. Definitely understand the limitations. Really enjoyed your review of Beaver Island. Have been there twice. Am desperately trying to convince my wife to move there once we retire (not very successfully so far). Seem like a great central point to explore Huron/North Channel, Superior and northern Wisconsin. We have been there by boat. We also visited by car when we were in Traverse City. It's just not a top ten for us. Mainly because it is very small with only a couple spots for larger boats and it's exposed to the wind. Also no grocery store within walking distance.

Question what length boat do most of those marinas consider too large for them? Thanks.

Good question. Out of all the marinas we visited only New Buffalo, in the Michigan Reservations, said we were too long. But when I called, they found a wall we could fit on. All the other marinas could accommodate our 56 ft Carver. A lot of them we saw 70 ft boats docked at.
