Lost Ruins of Arnak, Castles of Burgandy, Gaia Project and TI4 are great games I can vouch for. TM Ares Edition, Feast For Odin, and the new GWT games are on my shelf of shame too.

CoB - It very beloved at 2-players, but we like the market way more with more players. Arnak has worker placement elements, so that might not jive quite as well for you, but we love it.

CoB is amazing. For me I have a few: Wingspan, Grand Australia Hotel, Forbidden Desert, and Final Girl are tops on my must play list Goal is FORBIDDEN desert and Final girl this weekend

It is shameful indeed. They keep releasing more games every year than we can keep up with! In fairness, this is our side hobby and Cax has 8 kids running around so it's a miracle that he has played as many had he has!

far too many of these are also on my "need to play" list... I am in danger of having to turn in my Gamer's Guild card... be aware that if you're not a huge fan of worker placement, that mechanic is a big part of Lost Ruins of Arnak... it's not the only thing going on in the game though, and it is one of my faves... it is well worth a try

I just played Castles of Burgundy for the first time in January (2024), and like it quite a lot! We have the 2nd Edition rather than the Special Edition because we felt that the SE looked like a mess. I can vouch for young teens liking the game too. Arnak is good, Feast For Odin is good, but I probably won't recommend too often. Ark Nova however, is a big hit with us. If you want to learn Ark Nova, show the cards to your significant other, especially the Dusky Leaf Monkey. It will immediately become Next To Play.

The best part about missing a game like castles of Burgundy is that you have so many different editions to choose from when you buy it 15 years late.

I've played TM: Ares Expedition about 4 times now with 2 players, I really don't know how to feel about it. I had a bunch of non-games where one person got ahead and you just couldn't catch up to their progress, and the game balance seems a bit off with some of the cards being dramatically better or worse than others. There's definitely rich strategy to be had, but it all just feels kinda awkward. I've also played Nemesis twice, it's not my type of game as I don't really like horror games or really big complicated games but everyone else really enjoyed it, and I do think it's really well done.

Is Nemesis one that you admire the components, but the gameplay is subpar, or do the mechanisms hold up?

@@LegendaryTactics I think think everything holds up, it just wasn't the game for my particular tastes. When I played we had 4-5 players so it took a long time to get back to my turn but I think the mechanisms are good.

A Feast For Odin is amazing-if you try it and don’t like it then Worker Placement will never appeal to you. Similarly, Garphill Games has worker placement innovations that are very clever. But, Feast for Odin is worth trying just to see if more modern worker placement is not your thing, or if you just don’t like the historical more dry worker placement.

Castles of Burgundy my girlfriend s and my favourite of all time great at 2 and special edition ramps up the wow factor a point salad but with so many divergent strategies it’s a classic for a reason. Lost ruins of Arnak another great choice as well as Great Western Trail both top 10 s for me.

Stellaris is a scam. The KS campaign was problematic: no rulebook, no gameplay, no tts module, just an amateurish video with just turn of gameplay on TTS, then game looked to be redesigned, and still no tts module.

@@LegendaryTactics It certainly helped. And, before the KS I would have agreed on the reputation of Academy Games. However, now they appear to be in a development spiral, and there are very few solid details on what kind of game this will be. We were told in the KS that "All stretch goals and game expansions for 'Stellaris Infinite Legacy' have been fully developed and playtested. Most artwork is finalized and manpower has been scheduled and set aside to make sure that Stellaris Infinite Legacy will ship in a timely manner." Three years later and there is still no clear schedule for delivery. It's on the list of shame, that's for certain.

@federik21 - We have a full team working on Stellaris and decided over a year ago to add new components that were released in the PC game. As we have said in the past, we would rather have everyone mad at us for spending the extra time and resources to make an incredible game that they will then love, vs a game that is released with a mediocre game engine that we only play once and sits on our shelf until we sell it. We have had live designer videos, post the latest updates and miniature manufacturing pictures, and much more on the Discord channel. So please know that we are dedicating the manpower and funding developing a very unique game. As we also stated, we have weekly meetings with Paradox, plus have some of the original writers on our staff reviewing the storylines. Best Regards, Uwe
