For the AD&D gold box games, you really need the PC version. The NES is far more limited, and your characters are all a bunch of blue things. On the PC version your characters actually look good and can have a lot more colors. Fun Fact: you can get Unlimited Adventures for the PC which is an editor that lets you make your own gold box games. You can also get lots of custom sprites for it.

I can beat Gemfire within a full year of game time. It can go on for decades until every lord and lady reaches age 65 and passes away. All you need is to hire the Fachan monster, and after you capture a province, it will keep giving you another turn, so if you keep attacking and capturing provinces, you can beat the game in less then a year. Just watch out for the dragon, you need to keep the Fachan undamaged.

Ultima 2 was one of my favorites growing up in the 90s with the NES. It can be really long, because you need a LOT of gold to get the best equipment and build up your power base. To put things into perspective. When these games were the new hot stuff... We played outside and got to nerd out on games for very limited amounts of time. A game that didn't have near instant satisfaction... was the type of game we had to sneak and play late at night when Mom and Dad were sleeping. Today ego Chads have hundreds to thousands of hours logged on a game.

I was lucky to have a C64 back in the day with a copy of Legacy of the Ancients. I consider it the best game on the system, along with Archon, Druid, and Adventure Creator. Seriously, if you never got to play Legacy of the Ancients, go and look it up on youtube. Fun fact: The Sega Genesis controller is fully compatible with C64. Much better then the Joysticks.

Blaster Master, Rygar, and Top Secret Episode Golgo 13 needed a battery save or a password system. Don't get me wrong, those 3 games are great, but needing to sit down and play them from start to finish in one sitting really sucks. Unless you want to pause the game and leave the NES turned on with the TV turned off so you can come back and play it again the next day from where you left off. I do NOT recommend doing that, since you can burn out your NES that way. LOL.

You have to unscramble words that you find in the game, and if you get it wrong you lose the letters you find. Unless you already know the words the game's near impossible because you have to guess the word- who would want to unscramble words in a 2D platformer?

I always look at these how long to beat times and then I basically add another 50% to 100% more time onto it to gauge how long ittl probably take me. Because based upon how long the games took me to beat that are listed and I have played and completed it usually takes me that much longer to beat them. I watch long plays of people playing the games and beating them in around the same time and I think.... But these people know exactly where to go and what to do all the time it appears lol where I spend an hour wandering around blindly trying to figure out what I'm up posed to be doing. I feel like a lot of those time to beat times are based on people's who have played those games plenty of times already. What takes them 20 hours will take me 30 to 40 hours

Also you would quickly memorize WOHL(word of healing) ARFI (arc fire, an attack spell that uses little SP and scales with level) MIJA (mind jab same cost as arc fire same scaling, double the damage but later in the game because it's a sorcerer spell) WAST (war strike, an AOE attack) and STFL (Star flare, another AOE attack) and several other spells you use often.
