In Clannad's defense, it seems that they were building up to that ending from the beginning of the first season with that alternate world "robot" and Ushio, and the opening cinematic. One character I feel deserves an honorable mention at least is Sugisaki Ken from Setokai no Ichizon. Despite his eccentric perverseness getting himself into trouble all the time, he actually goes through a lot of hell and hard work both to establish his 'harem' make sure he can keep the girls happy. Kazami Yuuji might fall short as a harem lead, but he shines as a character; he actually pulls off the 'badass, cool guy' character because his past is actually hella fucked up and justifies who he is. XD I'd also like to point out that his character isn't all badass; he's effectively a mountain man with little knowledge of the real world outside of the military and the cabin he lived in and it shows through his lack of social graces and rugged, logical, yet lacking common sense personality. There's too much depth to him for anyone to just dismiss his character just like that.

Sadly for me, the 'plot' detracted too much from the actual plot to the point where I found it unwatchable. I made it through a season and a bit, but it just became too much. It's a shame, 'cos it looked like it could be good, but the pervertedness was just too much in the end. For me, the point where the main lead and the brother were talking about his power making the main female lead's boobs bigger just made me put it down and nope away.

Looking at Araragi's placement with the hindsight of having seen the whole series by now, it makes a whole lot of sense. While I find Arararagi by far the most interesting character on this list to watch (though that has to be done in smaller sessions due to the information density), he's a great character entirely separately of his harem lead status. Conversely he *does* fall just a bit short of the top 3 *specifically as* a harem lead, as that part of his role in the story is left to be less. Nice placement.

I love both Hayate and Keima, both mangas are in my all time favourite list, so I am all happy with the placements. Personally I'd have switched Keima and Hayate, since Keima not only knows about the girl's affections and actively acts on them (he WILLINGLY creates the harem while Hayate just gets flooded and doesn't seem to care much), but because he, unlike Hayate, tries to resolve the issues that having a harem brings with it (that is, he cares about the girl's feelings, becomes more and more reluctant over the time since he doesn't want to hurt anybody any more) and tries to protect all the girls from the harm that being in love with him brings. So I see Keima much more as a "harem protagonist", while Hayate, in my eyes, is a "protagonist with a harem". Also: Happy (late) birthday! :)

i have to disagree with number 1, he had 3 season to fix everything and such but besides the fact i do like him a lot, number 3 and 2 are better maybe not in context as much but in leading show. you watched the world god only knows because of the MC and in is this a zombie? Besides the girls all being really good what brought it all together and one of the most rewarding aspects was the MC. Number 1 won almost based off the story rather then his own character (In other words he won because of the things around him not really about him as a character himself.) But i guess this is subject to change for everyone and is debatable. But for me if you were to start a harem or say who the best harem led is i would say no hesitation Ayumu Aikawa the king of harems. (Kema your nice too, and BTW you missed two very good leads in both shido DaL and arata trinity 7)

He's just kinda there, helping girls because he has to trying to get his main chick while he's with his girlfriend that he doesn't really like *wink wink*. He's almost in the same situation as To Love-Ru's Rito, just a bit more rebellious.I thought they would play with the fact that he's a Yakuza, but the girls are more fleshed out than him. im not a big fan of harem anime.... though i do enjoy reverse harem anime such as ouran or fruits basket becuase the main characters are almost always kind but still weary of there male companions

From what little I've seen of Issei, he's definetely the better character. His perversion doesn't come off to a point where he's practically sexually violating girls like Tomoki's, whose anime tries to make it funny.

In the light novel Issei's character is a lot more developed. Such as talking about how he got trust issues after the fallen angel girlfriend tricked and killed him which explained why he never tries to "progress" his relationship with his harem girls instead of just being oblivious like most harem MCs. And has less fanservice.

Arata Kasuga from Trinity Seven is probably my favorite. the anime is fairly generic, almost all of its been done before and better. however Arata himself is what i love about the show, simply the way he reacts to all the harem cliches. he just rolls with with. something i haven't really seen in a harem protagonist before. also, Great List.

They're both done Spoiler for bad/WTF ending, it can also be different seasons, like Black Butler 2 in 3rd place (Sorry for the shippers, but I have to agree, that ending was like giving the Fandom what they want and either way the bad guys won) (Robyn can agree that the 3rd season save it's franchise) And spoiler for best: It can also be those who have/don't have their happy ending, like Princess Tutu, many agreed that the main character should have her happy ending, but as long as the other characters are happy, then it counts

kittygirl123100 Yes but you miss one main thing. Those endings have some endings that are anime only. I'm talking about ones that are dedicated to that not have some on a list. You seem to misunderstand anime only if you reference series that only exist as anime. I'm talking about series that aren't originally anime are based upon something and have to diverge and become their own ending because of the lack of source material. Also how is best anime endings even relevant to best anime only which are typically still terrible but not horrendously offensive with how bad they are.

At least we saw Darling from Monster Musume. He actually deserves a spot too, because he treats each of the ladies uniquely, and doesn't try choosing them despite how hard most of them try (with the exception of Papi and Suu between the bird brain a slime brain are more interested in Wii and pudding)

I'm curious if Arata Kasuga from Trinity Seven was even in consideration for the list? I never see him or Trinity Seven mentioned in Top x lists. I really liked his attitude as a harem protagonist. He is more on the openly perverted, easygoing side, teasing his harem in nearly all situations. Although it does shine through from time to time that that might for parts be just an act to ease tension while he is not as secure of himself or his powers as he wants to be.

Anyway, I DID watch Episode 1 of Is this a Zombie of the Dead?, and I actually enjoyed it. ESPECIALLY the part where Ayamu got a Bamboo stake Shoved up his Ass! ROFL! I think The World God Only Knows anime adaption suffers on this list because there were a few gaps in the season that changed how the story was presented to someone who's only seen the anime. Yes, the struggle for Keima is still there in the goddess arc, but there were also a few more routes/girls to explore that and acted as a buffer for Keima's development as a character. However, based on the criteria you mentioned, I think you made the right choice for your number one, though I am surprised you didn't go into a little more depth on the goddess arc, since that's where the anime really turns into a harem.
