Thanks for sharing the reporting option, however a MES solution is a lot more than reporting. Yes, the dashboards and reporting are the "Visual Face", but the other functional blocks are where the actual core of the MES lies and most of the effort goes in.

You have not even covered the big ones like Siemens Opcenter, Delmia, PTC etc

Pay attention to the positives he gives about Plex. Plex is built for manufacturing. They were built in the cloud, they have a slick user interface and the have a lower cost than others. These positives have nothing to do with it's abilities. It's full of bugs and the usability of it's features are inconsistent from one to another. "Prone to bugs" is an understatement.

As someone who has worked in 5 manufacturing firms from small to fortune 250, I've never heard of MES... what's the overlap with ERP?

Hello, what would you recommend if my company is a tannery and what we are looking for is that our customers can know in which process the leather is, that also can generate production costs based on recording the formulas of chemicals and other products used in manufacturing. It is important that it is compatible with the iOS system and can be used on iPad.

I am a bit surprised not to see Syncade and DeltaV in the list. I know they are not amazing, but don't they deserve the last places? I would like to know your comments about them. Thanks

Eric - I think you need to delve into "Infor" more deeply. My background is with Infor Visual. It has the BEST scheduling system for handling both large and complex equipment, widgets, etc. It can most certainly handle multiple sites. Some VERY interesting companies use it. Infor LN is for the big boys and competes with SAP, Oracle, and Microsoft. It is a whole separate ecosystem with a whole separate market. Multi-site?--no problem. Infor Syteline (CSI rebranded back to the original name). Is also multi-site, focused on manufacturing. XA is specifically for IBM systems. Infor Lawson is a whole different animal. Infor M3 is another whole different animal. And there are others. May I suggest you get with Infor's president and get a more in-depth view of Infor's stable? Because, when you get right down to it, there is no such thing as "Infor ERP". You always have to narrow down to WHICH Infor ERP.

There is no general top10 MES list. Go to some industry specific Exhibitionist and take a look. There are many of (small) MES providers which are specialized on Your buisness. Choosing a (big) generic MES isnt always the best way to go, in my opinion. In the end you will pay more for the customization to fit your requirements.

Agreed the cost of configuration to meet your needs will almost definitly be higher. But one of the things your paying for is the longevity of the company, will they be there in 5 years when you have to upgrade? Also the integration and support network. Small vendors have small footprints, you pay a premium for niche support.
