I think the secret to his dunk was his ability to actually hold a vice grip on that ball with just one hand while dunking. His aggressive attacking and freakish athleticism paired with his humbleness and heart made him truly 1 of 1. He brought swag, handles, technical knowledge and heart to basketball and made it so much more. He was an icon and will forever be the goat in my book

Anyone who says MJ isn't the GOAT is too young to have actually seen his career. He made NBA players look like college players every game he played. He dominated every facet of the game. There where very few games he played in where he wasn't the best offensive and defensive player. And he could take over a game at will. He was basketballs Wayne Gretzky.

@@thereall.e9828 yeah, as great as Bill Russell was, I wouldn't put him up at the top. I believe there's absolutely a battle between MJ and Wilt for the #1 spot. Wilt's size and athleticism allowed him to dominate in a way that nobody has ever really seen. He scored 100 points once, 78 points another time. His career averages are 30.1 PPG, 22.9 RPG, 4.4 APG and who knows how many blocks? He had a season where he averaged 50.4 PPG! then followed it up with 44.8 the next year. People like to say "oh but he was so much taller than everybody back then - it's not fair." So?! It's not fair that Jordan was able to jump over everybody or that he was so quick and strong. Physical attributes are just part of the game. Yao Ming was taller than everybody else, and he was great but he was no Shaq or Wilt or Kareem. You still have to put it all together.

It's got nothing to do with college. It was timing, and superstar status. It was the perfect storm - everything came together just right, at just the right time, to make Jordan the most popular/famous athlete in history. It was the 80s, the NBA was starting to go global, TV coverage was picking up. Bird and Magic had turned the NBA into a highly popular league. And Jordan came along right at the perfect time. His spectacular style of play instantly captivated the world and turned him into an icon the likes of which we've never really seen before. He's even above Ali in terms of celebrity. And he parlayed that into an extremely successful business career, especially the Air Jordan's. College literally had nothing to do with it.
