I found your channel from your previous video(about the single light) and I watched a lot more but I came to your latest to comment that you definitely deserve way more people and audience to notice you. I like your content a lot but what made me stay is your character. Keep it up man

I find your entire channel extremely helpful, welcoming and educational. This has been the most helpful video for me as I am in the midst of setting up my own business and even with a degree in photography not really knowing where to begin. Thank you so much. You're work is exquisite especially your personal projects. Off now to take a shoot WITHOUT over thinking the technical side! haha

1-thinking it'll be easy 2-taxes are a PITA 3-undercharging 4-not asking enough questions 5-comparing yourself to others 6-thinking better gear means better photographer 7-not backing up content 8-shooting so much for others that you lose the essence of shooting for your own joy 9-obsessing over technical stuff 10-get it in writing

There are many things photographers may not think about. You have great tips on how to get started and ideas to keep things in order. I have watched some of your other videos and what I like is that you are telling people to keep your freedom as a photographer which will help in creativity. Other channels I’ve seen who do brilliant work have tunnel vision because they truly believe the equipment they have is superior over anyone else and suggestive sell these items. They are locked in with it, and to get the shot you need, you must use ( enter light here). And all the shots are spectacular, but are similar to one another. We all must adapt. Our creativity is based on what we have and what we do with it. It isn’t about what we want or don’t have. This is a craft with a multitude of tools to use and subjects we have yet to capture. I am subscribed and will watch more of the videos you posted and check your Instagram channel.

Great advise.......and it applies to other creatives as well! I could have said the same things about starting my decorative painting, and mural business, years ago! Thanks for being so real about it all. Cheers!

It was certainly more refreshing, honest and useful than the usual "Take extra batteries". Even though I’ve no intention of setting up in business, as an ex business owner I can see real value in this video.

Very interesting Tommy and very brave, few people dare to tell the mistakes encountered. This is how you can measure the path you took to get there !

I love your videos, thank you for sharing your experience! I've been into photography since I was a little girl and ALWAYS carried a camera around with me everywhere.Since I could remember i wanted to to be a photographer! I went to school PAID way to much to a school that was gonna teach me photography got discouraged about the bill so I stopped going and started a "real job". It has been at least 10 years now and I just lost my job in December started taking photos again for family and thought I HAVE THE TIME NOW, LET'S DO IT! SO here I am trying to start my business!

With new technologies the point number 6 it's never achieved. Upgrading lenses, strobes, flashes, and accessories it's too much expensive. Great video, the biggest mistake it's "Procrastination".

Mistake 11 not learning basics of audio recording :( upsets me how all photographers have no idea how to correcty record/mix audio for videos. as a sound engineer going into photography its really noticable. I love your content though and your videos are so informitive but I think you have the skills to go the next level.

9:34 THIS is anxiety inducing! hahaha Personally hits home... I shoot primarily wildlife and nature as a hobby, but this coming year I'm going to start offering services to generate a little extra revenue. Portraiture, weddings, family photos; these are what generate money, not birds and surfing and flowers... The terrifying reality of this though, I don't even OWN a flash or any sort of lighting - I've always been under the impression that natural light is king, and it is for my photography up to this point. But I'm going to have to learn, and buy some gear, to kit the style of shooting that will generate funds for me. Great vids mate! I'll be watching them over the next few days to get some tips and advice moving forward. Cheers!

Tommy, I disagree. Non-mathematicians do learn something important in algebra: they learn how to solve difficult problems that seem at first glance to be insoluble, and that is a VERY important skill in all areas of life.

That was a horribly exploitative contract that band put over you. What a con job. If shouldn't even be legal to be able to sign away one's rights like that. They'll have their karma I'm sure.
