Number One wasn't a problem for me. After seeing the Blue Lagoon, the Golden Circle and a few waterfalls that I can't spell, I just drove around and found stunning scenery to hike through, hot springs and a wonderful hotel to stay at. It was actually the unplanned parts that stick in my mind the most. Headed back next spring!

@@TimeWarpIceland One of the best moments, wondering where I was on the tip of Snæfellsnes peninsula, pulling over to check my map and then looking back to see a view I will never forget. I'd say, plan for 2-3 days and then just explore for a few more.

in regards to #5 ("not enough time to go between places"). I'm taking Route 1 around Iceland, and making detours in each region (minus the Highlands and minus the Westfjords). If I have 13 days to make this drive, should I be driving a few hours per day (and staying at a new hotel each night)? I'm a little perplexed how to go about my trip. I want to spend 2 nights in Reykjavik if I can.
@TimeWarpIceland7 ай бұрын
It's tricky. If you just want to stop at the sights and see them then 13 days is plenty. But if you want to do tours and hikes and that sort of thing then 13 days might not be enough. I recommend spending some time on an itinerary. Plan hotel stays arround the circle and of you want to do longer tours or if there is something that you think will take more than one day spend two nights there. Ultimately, you will be spending a lot of time in the car. But it's a gorgeous drive for the most part. Don't forget to enjoy that too and make time for unscheduled stops. Have a great trip 😊
@PrinceofMacedonVlogs7 ай бұрын
@@TimeWarpIceland thank you for replying to me! I only have a few tours planned. And most of the hikes I'm doing should only take a few hours. I'll try to spend the night in the areas where I'm doing tours. Keep up with your great videos. They're hilarious

I just finished the Ring Road, and there IS a difference in water taste depending on which part of the country I was at. The water at Skogar campsite and the Silver Circle campsite tasted like sulfur while others were fine (unless I was refilling from the wrong faucet lol). Svinafell Campground has the best tasting water by far imo! 😊
@TimeWarpIceland2 жыл бұрын
The water is definitely slightly different between areas of the country because the water doesn't come from the exact same bore holes everywhere. That would be a nightmare to distribute. The Bottled water I was sampling in the video came from Reykjavíks borehole but the tap water from Flúðir. So I wasn't 100% accurate in the video but just proving a point. The water really tasted the same. It's possible that under served areas have poor quality plumbing. I definitely recommend bottling as much water as you can in places where you find it exceptionally good 😊

If you're coming from the US, I recommend the following before you board the plane to leave for your trip to Iceland. Visualize the part in your driving psyche that contains driving 85-90 mph on the highway commute to work. Weaving in and out of traffic because of "gotta get there-itis". Aggressive driving period. Take this animal and put it in your glovebox in your car at home and lock it there for safekeeping for when you return. You will find Iceland a slow country. The speed limits everywhere are very low. There are no super highways. Not one. The highways they do have are not what you would expect. There are tons of single-lane bridges that come out of nowhere from double-lane roads. There are many gravel roads. There are hilltops with a knife edge. There is one climate only in Iceland. Unpredictable and always changing. Sand storms. High steady winds. Fog. Ice. Large industrial truck (this is a weather phenomenon too). Fortunately, the scenery everywhere is so gorgeous that driving slowly will extend the appreciation of it and keep you safe in order to see more the next day. -Iceland traveler from summer '21 in rented Dacia Duster

Guilty of at least two. I was sold for an ice cave tour in October, even received notification for pick up. When they didn’t come I contacted them and they said it was not time for ice caves yet, so they refunded my money and I had to go to the bus station to find a tour to spend the day.

Fun and informative video. Planning with A/B options is important year 'round. In winter, because the weather can be even more spicy than usual and in summer, high tourism numbers equate to less last-minute options for car rentals, hotels (especially in more remote areas). On Friday, there were people complaining that Blue Lagoon tickets for this week were sold out. I understand wanting to do things spur of the moment, but seriously... it's the number one 'grammed Icelandic moment. They don't need to hold some tickets aside for Karen once she gets her act together.
@TimeWarpIceland2 жыл бұрын
Haha yea, poor Karen. Great tip, thank you. I hope to do a series of videos like this so I'm making it a habit to collect the tips. Not booking in advance is definitely up there. Even though it didn't make this particular list.

My trip to Iceland was in the mid 1980s long before it became the 'It' place to go. Planning it was a workout for my travel agent, remember them? I rented a Ford Fiesta and drove the ring road. It was July and the glacier had just receeded from the shoreline. As for water, I think that was before bottled water even existed. Great time, except for the German fellow tourist at a hostel who harrased me for U.S. foreign policy. Yikes!
