It makes zero sense to put another stadium in St. Pete,they seriously need to figure out their smartest move is moving the team to Orlando,the proposed stadium is going essentially walking distance from one of the biggest convention centers in the US,just how many more people will that bring in,all those conventions end at 4-6pm and then all those thousands of attendees have nothing to do,the theme parks dont close that late,Animal Kingdom and the Universal parks have closing times between 6-8pm,staying right there to watch a game is pretty appealing.Then the central location in the state will bring people from the east and west coast and metro Orlando population is growing at a staggering rate,seems so silly to commit the Rays to playing way out there past Tampa,just crossing the Skyway bridge is scary AF!!
@classjacksonlawsuit9 ай бұрын
It would still be a hard uphill battle, especially if they rebrand. The thing you fail to mention and/or realize is that those convention goers aren't as lucrative as you would think and neither are the local fans on either coast. Mostly because the vast majority of them aren't from Florida originally and those that are often have allegiances baked in from their parents or other familial ties. Best of luck, but that market isn't as sustainable as building a new stadium in Tampa proper would be.

When you look at Raleigh, you have to take Durham and Chapel Hill into account, which moves the metro population over 2 million. For Charlotte and Raleigh, you have to take into account the other large metro areas in the Carolinas like Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Greenville, Spartanburg, Fayetteville, and Columbia. The expanded market is up around 10 million, and that is a lot of potential fans. A team that isn't run like the Panthers should do well in that area.

I did Vancouver, Portland, Salt Lake City, and San Antonio in the west. I did Cheyenne, WY, which was dumb, but they drew better than you'd think. After a few years I moved them to Omaha, and moved Portland to Las Vegas. San Antonio and Vancouver drew the best. A's had moved to San Jose. Rays DID move to Orlando and drew better in "Universal Field" (Universal Studios). In the east, I had Nashville, Charlotte, New Orleans, Buffalo, and Richmond. Richmond eventually moved to Columbus.

Hypothetically speaking, I wonder what would happen if Vegas goes ahead and says no to the A's and all of a sudden throw their name in a hat for expansion. Would Vegas still be a legit contender when weighed against the competitive possibilities as outlined in this video? I'd say their chances go from definitely to probably. I'm real afraid that if Vegas says no to the A's, they would likely to lose out on MLB altogether just like they did with MLS. And to add insult to that injury, they would still have all those MLB dot tv blackouts that could have been resolved. On the other hand, are TV markets still relevant in the age of cordcutting? In fact, in the early '80's the Expos were outdrawing both the Yankees and Dodgers!!!!!! In a perfect world a new ballpark in the Peel Basin area close to downtown and directly accessing the new REM light rail line would be the best option and preferably with a retractable fixed roof. The main issue in Montreal is that it would need to be privately financed especially in light of the continuing Olympic Stadium fiasco.... I think it's an easy decision if they only add 2 teams: Nashville and either Vegas or Oakland, whichever team doesn't get the A's. I could see a deal worked out with Oakland similar to the NFL and the Cleveland Browns back in the 90s. I think you can rule out any city in Florida because of the attendance issues with the other two teams. I think you can rule out any city of Texas because the other two teams already have the fans. I would rule out Mexico City because of the altitude.

You shouldn’t comment if you have zero sense. The Browns situation is night and day different.

I was thinking Oakland would keep the rights to the team name, history, records, etc, but the players, coaches, staff would move to Vegas.

@@DoctorEw220 That’s what the city wants. I think the Braves are the only other team which didn’t change its name when they relocated (Browns > Orioles, Senators 1.0 > Twins, Pilots > Brewers, Senators 2.0 > Rangers, Expos > Nationals).

IF Orlando gets a team, I see the Rays moving there. Personally, I think the expansion will come from three possible cities: 1. Nashville 2. Charlotte 3. Portland.

I agree with the Rays, they cant build there where they are currently and still expect the fans to come from Tampa, move them to Orlando they can get people from both the atlantic and gulf side plus all the tourists that are in that area some will want a break from the theme parks

Nashville is a solid baseball city. Fans support Vandy's ranked college team. Salt lake City? Colder than Denver. Not much history there.with the sport. Texas is a great baseball state, High School, Minor leagues, College, weather, so San Antonio looks good to me.
@matthewbrueckner83749 ай бұрын
I agree Sacramento is not a current candidate but your reasoning is pretty flawed. You say, remember when they tried to build a baseball stadium… That was 35 years ago! Sacramento is an entirely different city. Rather, there is no ownership group and/or organization actually pursuing an expansion team. So, that’s probably a more likely reason why they wouldn’t get a team.

As of now, each league has seven teams in the Eastern Time Zone and eight in the others Therefore the next two teams will almost certainly be in the East . Montreal? Nashville? Charlotte?

I just hope those games would be on NESN or NBC sports Boston if that actually occurs, which I don’t think it will. But I would put a team in Austin over San Antonio or build the stadium between the two cities in either San Marcos or New Braunfels & call it Austin-San Antonio whatever the team will be called.
