My 2 RF&P GP-40s. Road # 123 and 126. They are consisted together. I grew up military but Ashland Virginia was our “home base” my grand parents lived right next to the tracks. I remember the last of the E8’s as well as the GP-38s and 40s! Love these engines!

Favorite locomotive is the GM Aerotrain. I grew up in Cuba and my dad had a collection of Popular Mechanics magazines in Spanish and he had the 1956 copy with an article about it. I read that article hundreds of times. We came to the states in 1969 and in 1991 I saw the Aerotrain at the St Louis Museum of Transportation. It was rusting away in a corner of the museum but now it has been restored at least cosmetically and I am anxious to see it again soon. I’ve seen the one in Greenbay aloso. In 2005 (I think that’s when Con-Cor released it) I wanted to buy the HO version from Con-Cor but I couldn’t justify spending the money. Before I retired I splurged and purchased one on eBay then slowly acquired the 10 car consist and installed the dcc decoder. I love it! I know the real thing was a big flop but it’s my favorite. I’ve been lucky to run it at my model railroading club and really enjoy seeing it run. Sorry for the long story. LOL

I am a big fan of Southern Railway & NS but my favorite had to be a ScaleTrains EMD SD40-2 (dcc) #3317L in the southern paint scheme. I was pleasantly surprised how loud this unit was not to mention how smooth it ran. But the reason i got it was i share my train hobby with my kids and this one is my daughters birthday. She absolutely loves this train and running the sounds while running on her small 32x48 layout

I have American Flyer S gauge trains, and some of my favorite locomotives are a #310 Pennsylvania K5 from 1946, the first year of Flyer S gauge, #322 NYC Hudson from 1947 with the smoke unit in the tender, and my newest one from 2023, a New Haven EP-5 electric. S gauge is harder to find than others, but I grew up with these trains and love them!

My dad got me hooked on model trains when I was 9. He would talk about the Big Boys and how massive they were pulling lots of cars. I would like to have one running on my track someday.

#1 is an old first run Kato Mikado custom painted in Boston and Maine speed lettering. It was a gift from a long time friend during some bad times. B&M never had them, but when they came out, those were some of the best looking and running locos you could buy. They didn't pull much though. Kato did made a traction tire kit that helped alot.

I have several brass HO steam locomotives. Two of them run with ESU Loksounds with sounds I recorded and edited myself. The other 2 are currently under rebuilds for getting equipped with DCC and custom brass details being made to backdate the era it runs. My personal favorite is Northern Pacific Class A 4-8-4 2601.

I have too many to picj favorites, but i feel i should mention my life-like diesel. I dont know what its name is, but its actually great quality. Its a switcher with crew memebers, lights, and cab detail. DC. When it runs at just the right speed the sound its motor makes is soooo soothing! Almost hypnotic. I usually have it hauling cars filled with stone, scrap, and monerals along the inner loop of my railroad while my (also DC) bachmann thomas with speed activated sound hauls Hornby Annie and Clarabelle along the outer loop. Honorable mentions to the prussian G8 or whatever its called that i love, and the mantua 2-6-6-2 engine i found in a thrift store. Even had its original box!

Great video and nice to see your top 10. Hands down I don't have too many favorites, but am really enjoying my modern Kato locos, SD70MAC, ES44, 70ACE, and SD 40-2. All pull great and look super with the lights. Just having a lot of fun with N. Still considering a Kato Big Boy and the excursion set. Really looks like fun. Enjoy!

My favorite engine in my collection is my BLI NW2 in Boston and Maine livery #1209. It runs like a champ, I love the sound, and it was my first DCC engine purchase. I've picked up other engines since, but none hold the sentimental value of 1209 to me.

The pride of my collection is an N-scale Missouri Pacific E-8 (I forgot the manufacturer). I live near-ish the old Missouri Pacific mainline, and I always loved the look of the Eagles, so it was a pretty exciting day when I found one on EBAY for 80 bucks. It runs well on my layout.

My top favorite locomotives in my fleet are my Metra MP36's from True Line Trains. While the TLT HO-Scale versions may not be the most reliable, the MP36 is my all time favorite locomotive with Metra being my favorite along with one of many railroads I grew up with. One of my MP36's I've done up with some customization and the other I've had for over 10 years now and have made so many amazing memories with that locomotive.

I’ve got a couple to mention. I’ve started to change some of my locos to match CSX. I’ve got an Atlas GP38-2 and GP40. I think one was undecorated and one was St Lawrence and Hudson. I converted them both to CSX to match (roughly) two that I got on video near home, so I painted them custom, decaled, and weathered, as well as converting from dc to dcc, which wasn’t much work. I also have a GEVO that I added sound to that was already CSX, as well as a GEVO that had been DJ’s, from DJ’s Trains.

As an European living in the US, I can't help it - my favorite locomotive is the NoHAB diesel electric, build by the Swedish Nydqvist & Holm AB under license from General Motors. Denmark and Norway were major customers on these in the 1950's and 1960's. They look a little like the War Bonnet, but with a drivers cab at both ends - and they still are being run in active service in various private companies in Denmark and Germany, 70 years after initial delivery.

My Broadway Y6B is absolutely the star of my layout so far as well! I also have a Broadway Light Mikado NKP war bonds engine which I made a custom WW2 materials train for so that’s definitely 2nd. Besides those, I have a Bachmann SOU Light Mountain to pull the Asheville Limited, and a Bachmann Pennsy Torpedo K4 to pull a Fast Mail Express, I love those too but compared to the Broadway options they’re not as put together and definitely lacking in the sound dept. Soon I’ll be getting my first diesels in the form of Broadway Limited’s recently announced GM Electro Motive Div. Demo F3 units and I’m hoping to get one of their Santa Fe Heavy Mountains too 🛤️✅

What type of fluid are you using for your BLI Big Boy? I purchased a Lionel version but maybe the viscosity isn’t correct I refuse to send it back if it’s an issue due to how much fun I have running it….also, you had some of my current favorites such as the C39, BLI big boy and Kato SD40-2s…

I am a GE fan. But I must say the C39-8s and C40s have a soft spot in my heart. The C39 is a but ugly to some, but I see it as GE’s first really modern loco and began what would be their dominance of the diesel market in recent decades. The DASH-8s are just iconic.

Do you have a go brand for n scale speakers, or is there a method to increase the sound quality?
@JohnB94743 ай бұрын
Here's a question for your next Q&A session. I recently acquired a complete N Scale layout with some 183 cars and at least a dozen locomotives. All the engines are DC and judging by their age, not DCC ready. I'm a long time HO modeler so I'm not too interested in trying to convert them to DCC. The layout came with a Tech II power pack. Is there a way to use a hand held throttle to run a train rather than have to stand next to the power pack all the time? Again, without going to DCC.😊
@Closet_Jedi3 ай бұрын
MRC had a power pack called a Control Master that used a handheld controller. It connected to the power pack with a phone jack and would maintain throttle after the controller was disconnected. You had to have several phone jacks wired around your layout but it did give you walk around throttle. I think the Tech 6 DC/DCC controllers have an add on walk around throttle if you're looking for something a bit more modern.
