Still remember Gage's emotions when he played Cimoooo with Kalut he looked so happy when he attacking his Blackwings but when Cimooo says Damage Step Gage's happy face turned into a frown and says "Please don't have Kalut" or when Cimo attacking and says Damage Step Double Kalut for game

Was really hoping "But you still take the damage!" was going to show up. That line would come up so much in later Yugioh series, especially Arc-V. However, I can't think of too many cards that actually exist that would prevent a monster from being destroyed by battle or card effect but also wouldn't prevent battle or effect damage.

Another thing about the Weevil beatdown is that it got huge in Japan due to the fad of Niconico Douga Medleys which would include a variety of musical tracks that were popular on the platform mixed together and usually accompanied by their original video sources, or sometimes even turned into entirely new songs that just happened to use the medley as a basis. "Fang of Critias", the track that plays during the scene, was one of the more common tracks to hear in these medleys and the scene was used as its accompaniment. And fun fact: Bait Doll is the only way for someone to activate their opponent's Trap card.

@@christopherb501 Technically by the cards wording Weevil could claim a victory by DQ, due to Téa's interference, as Berserker Soul (at least at the time of the episode's release and irl) said you were to carry on even if your opponent's LP hit 0 so Atem was duty bound to keep going, granted the rules irl have since changed but back then you had to keep going so by Téa interfering she stopped an action that had to happen and thus Weevil could technically claim a DQ win.

That isn't a meme. That was one very specific thing that happened in the anime, and then the game came to a point where that's almost the standard of playing the game. Okay this is only BARELY tangentially related to YGO, but Ojama Lime being included and Rata being mentioned, I have to remind the world that Rata was actually the one behind the whole Morbius meme. One silly YGOtuber managed to make a joke that spawned an entire cultural meme that is sorta still ongoing to this day

Back in 2014/15 my local Yugioh community had a facebook page where people traded and sold cards. One day a new member tried to sell his common Mirror Force Trap Cards for an obscenely high cost. At the time Mirror Force was still played, but was no longer a staple and had received multiple reprints so the going price was only a few cents. Other people on the facebook page tried to tell him he wouldn't be able to sell the cards for so much but instead of taking their advice he argued with them, trying to convince them of how powerful the card was. What made it extra funny is that every time he mentioned the card, he referred to it by the full phrase "Mirror Force Trap Card." This became something of a local meme to the point that if anyone activated the card or spoke about it, they all called it "Mirror Force Trap Card."

As a Weather Painter player my group has the meme "This WP went for milk" is used when I activate a WP effect in response to target removal, since it banishes for cost. Also against the solfachord player we have "Normal Cutia, tale as old as time" just a variation in Normal summon aleister since Solfas can't pend summon Cutia.

She even spent tie helping with an Excel document to write down all the descriptions for hte ones I had. Another reason why Berserker Soul is so memorable is because it's one of the more notable cases of the original Duel Monsters run of the anime actually emulating the real card game fairly accurately. Not in the way the specific cards work - as established in the video, Berserker Soul doesn't work this way in the real game - but on a conceptual level, setting up a BS OTK combo through a combination of various card interactions (Breaker dropping down to "1500" ATK by using its own effect earlier in the duel) and a bit of luck. It's a -believable- interaction for people who actually play the game. The one other scene that comes close in my mind is the Slifer Revival Jam scene.

Regarding Berserker Soul in the real game, it's my understanding it did actually used to work like it did in the anime in that you just kept drawing cards after the opponent's already dead, based on its wording. It was a ruling change that made it so the game immediately ended after dealing the final amount of LP damage necessary.

Evenly and Mirror Force are why I have trust issues. I played Branded a couple months back and my opponent had a set card, I had game on board but no way to destroy or negate the effect, I didn’t have opening in my grave either. The whole meme with Mirror Force and Battle Traps in specific got a lot more funny due to later anime scenarios as well Shark in Zexal was set up to "cheat" when he accidentally saw the one of the cards his opponents deck contained, which was a Mirror Force Then Revolver in VRains was set out to have a "powerful card", and during one of the first duels Revolver participated in on screen, upon facing a bunch of monsters with almost nothing on the field, he goes into this absolutely fabulous dance and tell his opponent to "Fall into the bottomless abyss of despair" while activating Mirror Force, he then proceeded to use a ton of battle traps throughout VRains. Then in duel links, one of Revolvers skill would be to add one of the trap cards instead of drawing at the start of the turn, called "Might of Hanoi" Effectively making a lot of players in OCG referring to all Battletraps and some other trap cards as "Might of Hanoi"

Sky Striker was somewhat of a short-lived meme since so many had Raye as their waifu, but then it was revealed in some manga that she was supposed to be 13 or something, so people had an existential crisis. Mirror Force has become a meme for another reason too, which is the Vrains anime. Basically, the anime built up the mysterious, powerful card in Revolver's possession supposed to make the opponent shake in fear, which was revealed to be... Mirror Force. Which got a mixed reaction for being at the same time a well-loved trap card that functioned well and had some anti-link synergy, and an underwhelming reveal. Speaking of the anime, another big meme from there is "but you still take the damage". This was a stock phrase for the anime from the beginning, as it was gleefully reminded to duelist who found a way to prevent monsters from destruction but not stop the attack, but became really infamous with Arc V, who abused it to no end. It became so bad that Vrains had Lightning subvert it entirely, continuously sacrificing resources to avoid taking damage. The usage of the phrase has gone down a bit after that, but it's still there.

I remember one incident with Mirror Force from years and years ago. I don't remember exactly how far back, but I was running a Psychic deck that focused on getting out Ultimate Axon Kicker as my boss and I was playing against a deck that ran Obelisk. I used Vengeful Servant on my monster and Battle Teleportation to allow a direct attack at the cost of giving my monster to my opponent, but as a result I'd deal damage equal to my monster's ATK twice to win the game... but my opponent activated Mirror Force in an effort to stop me. The thing was, my monster had an effect to prevent destruction by card effects, so Mirror Force did nothing. My opponent then went on to claim that Mirror Force still negated my attack even though it says no such thing on the card. And this was at a small local tournament, too. And the judge said my attack was negated even if my monster wasn't destroyed, I think they said something like "Nothing's mean to survive it which would end attacks anyway". I don't remember, like I said, it's been years since this happened and not a lot of monsters at the time had immunity to effect destruction at the time iirc.
