4.31-4.51: About the German ICE. The train shown in that timelapse is a 'Dutch' ICE train. As there is a ICE train service between Amsterdam and Frankfurt (Main) the NS (Dutch Railways) also bought a couple of ICE trains. Because of the shared operation with the German Railways (DB), so they don't need to pay for the use of the German trains. Normally, when NS should not have ICE trains they have to pay for the distances the German ICE trains run in the Netherlands
@youdontknowme70323 жыл бұрын
Actually the german ICE is a train series consisting of multiple models. ICE is just the shorter way of saying Inter City Express. There are also IC Trains which just consist of some older carriages connected with a single locomotive. And yes, Inter City Express (ICE) is a different thing from the Inter City (IC)

4:14 That's an ICE-T which is not part of the Siemens Velaro family.

9:14 « Turbotrain à Grande Vitesse » 😅😂🤣 The TGV is an electric train and TGV means «Train à Grande Vitesse » (HST, High Speed Train). Only the 1st prototype of the TGV was a turbotrain. Don't worry, that's not a big mistake. 🙂

As you say in your text, the choices are subjective, but I would question whether the Australian (Victorian) Walkers rail car counts as modern. They were certainly interesting vehicles though. The British HSTs (class 43) have been around for many years (since 1976 in service), even earlier in development. Grand Central is only a recent operator of the type, but they have appeared in many liveries since their inception. The first production livery used the then standard British Rail colours of blue and grey with yellow ends in a fairly ingenious and striking way. They do count as modern, though and certainly brought travel in Britain up to date. Nonetheless, I do enjoy your videos, so keep up the good work.

When I first saw images (including drawings; we're talking quite a while back) of the ICE-3, or more specifically the Siemens Velaro, I didn't like it a bit. Then, one day, I was sitting in an office in Amsterdam South-East, not having much to do and looking out the window, and this spaceship on rails glided past. Then I realised what a stunningly beautiful train this is. Fun fact: the second ICE-3 you filmed is a Dutch ICE-3M.

You did say it was subjective and some of these are pretty ugly! The British HST was spoiled when the buffers were attached; most ran without them. They are still running in Scotland - without buffers.

they are also in England with some buffered but mostly un buffered

4:18 what you showed there is basically not the Siemens Velaro (only some later ICE3 trains, manufactured after 2010 were Velaros made exclusively by Siemens). It's the tilting ICE-T train manufactured by the Konsortium ICNT (made from Siemens/Duewag, Bombardier/DWA and Alstom/Fiat Ferroviaria). ICE uses different types of trains, and their newest in their fleet is the ICE3neo (which can be considered a Velaro since is manufactured exclusively by Siemens). And ICE4 is made by a consortium from Siemens and Bombardier (today Alstom)!

Very interesting. As an Englishman may i comment on your number 4 choice. The class 43 type of train, the 'HST' was (until recently) very common on non-electrified British main lines, eg London to Nottingham (where I live). With a few exceptions, they are now banished to the West of England and to Scotland. The stay in Scotland is unlikely to last long, as the Scots government plans to electrify all its main lines.

The Velaro in its original manifestation - DB ICE3, RENFE Class 103 - is without a doubt one of the best looking, along with Shinkansen Series 500 (which I don't know if it is mentioned here, I haven't seen that far yet). After that, though, it got sadly bloated and uglier and uglier: see later ICE designs and the Eurostar Ckass 374. Of course, they'd blame EU regulations, everyone always does
